Tesla Full Self Driving Thread
I like driving but I do like seeing how FSD handles things. It handled two back to back traffic circles perfectly plus 90% of normal driving. Here is where it didn’t handle things well.
1. Last night it was close to missing a split exit and I had to take over and brake to move a lane over at the last second. I was waiting for it to change lanes and it never did.
2. In hurry mode it takes way to long to change lanes where it just sits there for like 10 seconds before moving over. No one drives like that.
3. In hurry mode it camped in the left lane with no one around which is not how I drive. What was impressive is that a car finally came up behind me and it got over.
4. Today it followed a car in front one me in slight traffic and we gridlocked cars at a light trying to turn vs stopping before intersection and waiting for the cars to move. Kind of embarrassing and I hate people that do that but it was a good test to see how it handles every situation.

Last night I had to work, and coming home after 11 PM I used it to drive home. It was about 99 percent flawless. Yeah, Mad Max mode is a bit aggressive, it drives way too fast on the highway. It also accelerates faster than I do. I'll probably be sticking to Hurry Mode
I find it waits till the last minute to change lanes for an exit, and I agree there are instances where it simply doesn't at all.
It needs to change lanes way before the 3/4 mile before the exit. There is too much unpredictability, such as stopped traffic.

I notice that as well. So far it's never missed an exit though
So just to let you know, I had FSD for five months, starting in December of last year, and it never missed an exit, but there were nail biting moments. Like you, at first I interviened, but eventually let it play out and the car always exited. That being the case, it really shouldn't cut it that close. If anything else, it needs to keep us nails biters happy

After more than a week of using v14, I would give it an A-. It's about 99 percent there on the roads and highways I've used it on, and the "setbacks" so far are hesitating when changing lanes, cutting it close when exiting from the highway, getting into sub optimal lanes unnecessarily just to get around slower cars. Mad Max mode is a bit on the aggressive side, but it is called Mad Max mode
. These can be addressed with future updates. Am I ready to get into the backseat and let it drive me without being able to intervene? Not there yet, but very close to getting there. For long drives I totally trust it

Waiting till the last minute to enter a lane cannot be the norm. That implies most Tesla drivers are a$$holes on the road haha.
So this morning using FSD, it did something really cool. I was in a line of traffic heading for a right turn, and someone was signalling to turn into a business park, and FSD stopped to let the person into the driveway. I thought that was really cool. BUT...FSD also made a huge blunder which was a real head scratcher. Making a right turn behind a huge line of traffic including trucks, FSD for some reason decided to move left (I'm assuming to get around the line of traffic), but then tried to get back into the right lane because the turn was only about maybe 100 feet away. I could see it was going to park itself in the lane waiting to get in to make the right turn and hold up traffic, so I took over and had to make a left turn, drive about 2 miles to find the nearest left turn (so I could make a U turn), and ended up losing about 5 or 6 minutes back tracking. So the cool thing it did was cancelled out by the bone headed blunder it committed
