The passenger restraint system error when I looked it up said there is some wiring under the seat that gets messed up and the service guy said the same thing. Some on the forums got a brand new passenger seat before but I doubt I will get that lucky.

My son's friend who used to be a Tesla service tech told me that Tesla just changes out the seats instead of repairing them, so you may get a new one, unless the issue is just minor wiring

Would have been nice if it was the drivers seat. Mine is showing a decent amount of wear these days. What’s weird is that the issue mostly seems to be the passenger seat.
Well I'm at the Tesla service center once again for two new issues. One is that I have an error message that popped up stating "front passenger safety restraint system fault" a couple weeks ago and then over the weekend the door handle was stuck, wouldn't open the door and made this horrible screeching sound when I drove like I was receiving a fax through my door. This car is the most problematic and frustrating car I have ever owned even though I love driving it.
So I get to the service center for my appointment this morning and I am told it may be 4-5 hours and whether I can drop off the car. WTF, I tell them I can't because no one told me that I needed to drop the car off and of course when I asked about a loaner, they told me they didn't have one but hopefully they will be able to get me out sooner. Why the heck didn't they tell me through the stupid app how long it would be or that I needed to drop my car off, or better yet, provide me with a loaner! I have never dealt with such an incompetent car company in all my years of car ownership. They did tell me they are going to have to take the door panel off again and I bet they are going to break it and I will need a third new door panel after this mess.
I only have 10,000 miles left on my warranty and I can't imagine how much this car is going to cost me in repairs after the warranty is up. Defnitely need to buy an extended warranty if they offer one.
All in all, I have spent far more time at the service center with each time being 4-5 hours than any other car. It's great that there is little to no maintenance but at least I only had to go to the dealer for my other cars once a year for an oil change. This is ridiculous.
Sorry to hear that - your ownership experience is vastly different than mine. I've put about 16k on our MYP and not been to the service center once. I've only had Tesla to my house one time to fix a loose plastic panel on the driver and passenger seat and they replaced my spoiler at the same time. I do occasionally get the message about the seat belt so I took a pic of that last time it popped up. I wasn't sure if I'd need to go to the service center or if that could be done at home, I haven't submitted it through the app yet. Sorry this has been painful for you.

No worries, I was just a little frustrated this morning after I got there and the service guy asked me if I was going to drop my car off because it was going to be about 5 hours. I just don't understand why they wouldn't tell me that up front (which I know why because no one ever talks to you, they just message you through the dumb app) and ask if I need a loaner or if I could drop off the car. Seems so easy but at the same time so hard for Tesla. With that being said, I have to say that the people I have dealt with in service are very nice and I always have good conversations with them and the work done has actually been good.
I didn't end up getting a new seat, they just replaced the seat harness and pretensioner so hopefully I don't have any more issues for a while.
Seeing we have completely abandoned the thread subject, I'll weigh in. Don't know the failure rate of MacBook but they are extremely difficult to repair. I was able to repair one but it died again probably another SMD capacitor blew up. Apple likes to silkscreen the board black and use dark coloured components because F you.

This is the perfect segway back to EVs, what you decry Apple doing is exactly what Tesla does so that nobody can service their cars other than them. If your Tesla breaks, nobody can fix it but Tesla and their service is pretty terrible. At least Apple's service is good.
The Apple cult frustrates you both and you're cynical towards it, but the Tesla cult doesn't get the same reaction. Why is that?
I have a friend with a Tesla Model S that she loves, but she says she will never get another one entirely because dealing with Tesla service centers is so terrible. She's going to go back to BMW in an EV.
Tesla's are simple to work on the suspension especially is very easy. Axles, hubs and other driveline parts are also easy to replace. Brakes you almost never have to touch. If you're getting into electronics then it is no different than any modern car it requires expensive, specialized tools. Try fixing a 2023 BMW in your back yard it's almost impossible including mechanical.

Macs are simple to work on if you know what you are doing. The point is when something goes wrong with your Tesla, Tesla has taken care to make sure that nobody can service it but them, same as Apple.
There are MANY independent BMW specialists, I can throw a rock and hit 5 right around me.

riiiiiiiiiiiight
Apple is some of the most difficult hardware there is to repair. No readily available schematics, many proprietary components you probably can't get. Very difficult to even open the device. see for yourself https://www.youtube.com/@rossmanngroup/videos
And all of that is also true of Teslas, thats my point. You're going to say its not because you can't admit Tesla has any shortcomings, but "keep dreaming" lol. Tesla is very similar to Apple in their brand ethos and how they want the consumer to deal with their products.

That's just simply wrong. There are a ton of third party shops in California that specialize in repairing Tesla's at quarter of the cost. Just do a little bit of googling. Everything from batteries to motors. Everything in a Tesla is repairable, which is why we have so many 2013 and on Model S with no warranty still alive and well

And there are lots of places you can take a Mac to be repaired other than Apple too.

I totally agree with that. I even mentioned I have a friend who repairs them. They are just harder to upgrade and repair as compared to a regular laptop

Like Tesla vs legacy automakers cars. Apple also scares the bejewzus out of people about it too…as does Tesla.
