New from the factory? I thought it only came as a full unit. I wonder if they sell the torsen separate now too?

Yes, and yes. But very pricey, like $3600 for the torsen unit.
Part no. 41301-53051.

They've always sold the Torsen separately, but it doesn't make economic sense to buy it. Similar money for the OS Giken, and a whole lot less for Cusco. Given the success installing the Giken units, it's difficult to imagine why you'd buy a new Torsen vs. getting a junkyard unit with the Torsen already inside. Worst case, you buy a gearset you like. Best case, clean it up, put better bushings in it and install.

Wha are you hoping for with the cryo treatment? I didn't find any value in it for brake rotor service life. Pretty disappointed about that too.

Yes agreed, totally not cost effective….

For approx. $3,800 you can buy the fully built Torsen Differential
Part no. 41110-53292

Looks like your empty housing was about 600 or 700 ish —

Are you considering using the RC F diff cover that uses a vertical bolt pattern on the left subframe bushing ?

Here is my RC F diff with RC F subframe diff bushings..
Small upgrade to the topside pinion ear bushing and insert kit only from SuperPro.

My 2014 already came with the same diff cover that are now on the RCF's and remember, this is the second diff I'm building and the first one already has all FIGS/Superpro bushings. This donor diff is off of a 2015 is350 RWD and also has the vertical bolt orientation on the cover, so this should be a quick swap when it's done, the only things I'd have to transfer from the current diff are the FIGS/Superpro pinion ear bushings. Yours didn't require removing the old bushings? I didn't know that they made inserts designed for the factory bushings.

I'm hoping to avoid gear breakage, doing it for peace of mind and it isn't expensive at all to get done. Anything that can break, not likely, in the OS Giken unit will hopefully stay contained in the unit and not cause damage to the gears.

Wait maybe I misread your post.. The OEM 2014 IS F differential cover / mount on the LH side for sure is horizontal..

You have a 2014 & 2015 Lexus IS donor differential that you did your swaps on..??

You already updated to the high hp super pro poly diff mount, so all you’ll be doing is clocking the LH mount itself to vertical position, if you use the newer diff cover - got it

^^ 2008 - 2014 Lexus IS F / OEM setup

^^ 2015+ RC F / OEM set up

Your swaps will be easy then..

What I decided to do on my RC F diff was keep the OEM pinion bushings, they were still in great shape. And just installed the super pro supplemental insert kit. SPF2769K

To my knowledge the supplemental insert kit works with both the oem & super pro full replacement pinion ear bushings.. I pretty sure Figs created the set for his site..

But à la carte, I never found the specific part numbers for the replacement pinion bushings..
All I ever dug out was the Supra ones - (not confirmed fitment spf4888k)

See my Post #42 and Post #52 in the “Spotting the LSD DIFFerences for IS F” thread for the research and part numbers.

Helpful for others I’m sure, but nothing you probably don’t know already

Joe Z

yeah my bad, 2014 does have the horizontal orientation of the 2-bolt bushing. It’s the donor 2015 is350 that has the vertical ones.

2014

2015 IS350

Okay so now you need a 3rd cover…

Which design and color you going with ??

We seem to think there was a design change for a good reason on the newer vertical lay out..

I’m gonna go with the later design and I’m thinking of a new color good thing I can easily just turn the bushing.

Just as a side note, the OSGiken is 100% chemically heat treated already. In addition, there is a non-TCD version of the OSGIKEN Diff available. TY401-HA vs HC and that is a standard non-though-hole clutch version. We still have both on hand. The supplemental bushings SPF2769k have always been the starting point for our pinion mounts, we just added material to replace the entire space to compliment the rear mounts. Just thought I would add it to the conversation.

Thanks Mike! Yeah I don’t plan to touch the OS Giken at all. Just sending the ring and pinion to Cryoheat.
