Good photos. So some manufacturer defect omitted the side flares on the middle clip? The workmanship on the receptacle hole looks pretty shoddy as well.

That's what it looks like to me and from testing it. People have been saying that the heat may have caused it to drop but clips themselves simply look defective so they were barely held in place regardless.

Mine looks identical to your excellent photos. I agree with everything you stated. 24 hours ago, I tried Gorilla Glue Clear Grip (similar to E600 and Goop) applied liberally to the front back and sides of the 3 middle clips, plus the inside of the relative receptacles, then pushed the leather trim tight against the upper "garnish" and held it in place with a piece of wedged styrofoam (protecting the dash - as shown in photo) for 2 hours. Today there is zero gap (even had a small gap right after trying double sided tape) after the car in 90 degree sun all day. If this doesn't hold then I'm done, as this glue is pretty tough.

Seems the glue is acting as the missing flares while also bonding to the receptical.

And what about the clips? The yellow sections are easily removable and seem to serve no purpose. Agree, the end area clips seem to grab as they have the flares you described, but no flares in the middle 3 clips (on mine). Yet, the recepticals are all identical.

PL200. I only keep my vehicles for a couple of years so PL200 will do fine.

Good point if leasing or only keeping car for a couple of years. Also, PL200 might even work better. Learning a lot about good adhesives.

Up here leased vehicles must use only factory repairs. In fact, you have to have an insurance rider to guarantee that.

Up here, we call that "fraud'. Leasing companies are not known for being forgiving.

Doesn't address the hypothetical question but I get it.

Update: More than 48 hours and glue still holding tight. At this point, will only update if it fails.

They haven’t sold Yugos for years.
