Default Check Engine Ongoing 2001 RX300

I've had this light on for a while. Everytime I get it checked, the Evap codes come up. P0440 P0441 P0446. I also have the Trac Off, VSC, and ABS lights on. My dash looks like a Christmas tree.

Anyways, I read that this could be from an air cabin filter hose disconnected when the filter was changed. I reconnected the hose, cleared the codes, and P440 has come back after 100 miles.

If I open my door after starting the car, I usually can smell gas for a couple minutes, then the smell goes away.

How can I fix this? AutoZone says I need a new vapor canister, but I don't always trust their word. I can get a new gas cap, but I'm not sure if that's the issue either.

Answers appreciated. Thank you.

I've fixed PO440 may times by replacing the gas cap, Toyota genuine.

This is a good P0440 post and thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...ml#post5230674
Since it starts with gas cap might as well start there. I agree, use a genuine one.

I predict a smoke test will be needed.

I replaced the gas cap with a duralast one. I erased the code and so far the check engine light hasn't come on after 200 or so miles!

That sounds good. I had a problem with an aftermarket gas cap, it was extremely hard to remove for refueling.
Replaced with genuine one, problem gone.

I damaged my parking brake because the bulb had burned out, I was in a hurry and didn't notice my parking brake was still engaged.
So I moved the good bulb from the engine indicator to the parking brake indicator: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...placement.html

I commend you on your ingenuity, but everything has a purpose. I would suggest replace the burnt one with a working one. Some of the issues are indicated in advance by the engine indicator and if you address them in time, you may even be saving on gas.
