New software update
Seems like I will have to go to the dealer to get my 2024 updated. 💁♂️
I really hope they have an update that fixes the HUD navigation display with Apple Maps. Ever since iOS 18 it cuts off the navigation text in the HUD which is quite annoying.
My local dealer's service department confirms that they've had some complaints about this but until more customers complain it they've heard it's a low priority (according to them, anyway).

YMMV,

I'm new to Lexus so I'm not sure what to expect in terms of the fix timing, but I suspect it will be quite a while.
We just got called to schedule an appt in service for a new radio installation. LexusUSA Customer Service claims they won't get an update (actually I need a backdate) done anytime soon, so to keep us happy they will just replace the radio, on the off chance the mic is defective, that they couldn't figure out how to test. Service claims they will have it for 2 weeks to replace the radio - don't know how it would take that long, but with a loaner, whatever. Now here's the funny parts - service claims they have to get the part updated during replacement - uhmm, isn't that why we're doing this?? And, even tho we claimed this problem in July and clearly noted in the service record our mileage within the warranty, service claims they'll have to "fight" LexusUSA Warranty Dept. to pay for it. Whatever; with the "updated" new unit, I don't know how they think this is going to go well, but we'll see.

I am not happy! We are taking the car in for a minor service and installation of the winter tires Thursday. Having spoken to the service manager at the local dealership previously, he stated that they would gladly install the update at the cost to me of 1 hour labour ($168.00). So, I thought I'd let Lexus take care of this . Today I called and the nice lady there said, after taking my info and asking someone else there, that they were unable to explain why the update didn't come OTA. Then, to add insult to injury, they refuse to pay for the installation! This is the last straw, I will try again in the AM but if I'm supposed to pay for this, this will be my last Lexus. I had pretty much the same experience with Ford a few years ago. Lexus used to be better and cared for their customers. This appears to be no longer the case. Shame on them!

I don't mean to offend, but why would you want an update, when so many have problems after? I bought my car with an agreed upon infotainment, why would I endanger that with their poor reputation of updates? For you, if it doesn't come OTA for your car, system, and VIN, why are you chasing after it? I definitely wouldn't pay $ to gamble? I'd rather take what has worked and lock them out forever. Good luck.
The other aspect of this, which really disappointed me and frankly pi__ed me off, is the lack of customer respect from Lexus. Yesterdays conversation included the agent saying they don't know why I can't get OTA updates and we're not doing anything about it. The correct response is "your car has issues, take it in and we'll fix it".

Very sorry to hear this happening to you! This makes me frustrated and it's not even my car. First off I'm guessing your car is still under warranty so you would think that Lexus is expected to keep your car up to date with all OTA updates at least well under warranty. Second, I can't find anything online whereby it says 'you will only get OTA updates if we want to give you OTA updates' (yes this is meant to be sarcastic). At the core OTA updates are to provide modern cars with NEEDED updates to CORRECT flaws in their various software and operating systems, full stop! This is to help avoid recalls and tsb's, which are costly to perform. It really doesn't matter what brand cell phone you presently have and if it's able to communicate smoothly with your car. It came equipped with both wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto functionality, so it should be expected to continue to function throughout it's life or until Lexus says it's dropping the compatibility of either operating system. Besides, you can own any phone you want, the next owner of the car can too, so it should always work for both systems.
I would ask the service manager, and then a call to Lexus Customer Service: Where does it say that I'm not entitled to receive the latest OTA update for free while under warranty? For what reason is my car not allowed to have an update performed by a dealer (especially while still under warranty), if the OTA update procedure has failed to download and operate properly? If in the future after I was refused to get an update and something happens to my car and it is determined that an update would have prevented 'that' from happening who is now responsible?
I don't quite get why the dealers 'costs' to perform an official update isn't covered under warranty when the owner's OTA update has failed to be completed. It's not the owner's fault.
I would contact the dealership ahead of your appointment and ask that the Service Manager be available to discuss your concerns with you while you're having your car serviced.

I did call the Lexus line, that was the agent who said they don't know why the OTA doesn't work and didn't seem interested in finding out why. I just heard from the dealership and to my surprise, the service manager did contact Lexus yesterday. They are working on it behind the scenes, without telling me (until just now). So I have some glimmer of hope here.
Agree with all your comments, which is why I was so peed off. Update 2050 came OK, why not 2170? They are asking me about my phone, provider and data plan. So maybe there is something wonky from their end with that? I'll update if/when I find out tomorrow.

And sorry, but it should take AT MOST 14-20 hours or so to perform almost any repair tops, and I'm talking an engine replacement as well, or a complete dashboard removal and replace (just roughly here). I wouldn't hand my car over to these people, they sound completely inept. Let them know you will have them get the new part in first, have them perform an update to it 'on the bench in the shop' first if that's possible, then you take your car in for a day or two to have the install done.
I don't think most people realize that the cell phone connectivity is a standard that all the phones are built to. How many brands can you name off the top of your head? Do you really think that every auto maker is going to update the radio software every time some random cell phone maker comes out with a new phone built to whatever connectivity protocol they want? From an earlier post of mine - None of my other cars of different makes need updates to connect with any phone, and 1 is a '12! The lexus updates are to give you the latest "experience", usually new screen colors and fonts, etc. They aren't giving you new "hardware features", except new apps that cross over from your phone. And again, this started from the update in May thru about August, and they can't diagnose the microphone separate from the whole radio, that's way too deep into electronics for an auto mechanic (I work in an electronics company). So that brings the basic question - is it the update or the microphone, and why would I want the latest update to be installed on the part coming obviously unpowered from a parts warehouse. Let's try it in a "as manufactured" state first that we know worked. As said above, I would be happy to lock out the radio from anymore updates and simply use the colors and fonts as they are for the life of the car. Maps, Iheartradio, and texting (with micrphone), etc had worked fine, what else do I need? What should I lose to try new apps? I bought it with a certain amount of functionality, and if they want to offer new software features, and they don't work, I should have the ability to step back an update to return to the original purchased functionality. Lexus has said that they have many complaints on the small screen, and especially those non-subscribing. Why does it take them so long to tear apart the dash? No idea, you can call and ask, but I'm getting a loaner, so it was more ridiculous than angering.
