Default Audi HID 9006 convert...Using new Audi components...Split beam problem...

I recently converted a D2S, D2R Audi bulb and a Audi Hella ballast into my Lexus SC400...Everything seems to be working perfectly until I put the lights on...It seems to have a split beam pattern when it lights up...It only lights up at the FAR corners and NOT in front of me...If you look at the headlight lens you will see where the beam splits apart..No matter how I adjust the headlights, it never seems to go right..

It seems like I'm the only person with a problem like this...Everyone else whom I've installed this kit for does not seem to have this problem...I have considered doing the whole retrofited version with the Audi projecters, but it will bring me out of my orginal budget that I had intended..

Any probable causes for this problem..?

I'm guessing it's a D2S bulb, since all Audis with HID that I know of have projectors. D2R bulbs are for reflector applications, like certain Lexus, Acura, and Mercedes vehicles.

I'm actually having the same issue! I've also fitted my car with a set of Audi HID bulbs ad ballasts. I also get the split beam, kind of cross-eyed. It's really annoying too

As far as the different style lens applications like squarehat mentioned, is replacing the bulbs with the 9006's the solution?

The Audi bulbs don't go all the way into the housing which causes this problem. REAL 9006 will solve this problem for sure! Good luck.

Too much work, there is no ASSURANCE that it would work properly...Rich's retrofit X5 project took well over 100 hours to assemble...

Ok, I may be a little late, but I have the answer to your problem. If you look at the inside of the projector it has not only a blocker plate to prevent the beam from shining high to prevent blind other motorist, it also has another blocker. What I did was take apart my lights, and took a grinder(the tab is cast ) and removed the upper, smaller tab. Now my lights focus correctly, it almost completely solved the problem. having a beam pattern like this, |_---_| sux. (I know you love my visual example there, haha). In retrospect I decided that it would have been allot easier to just use bmw projectors, in place of our halogen designed projectors. Although mine turned out fine in the end, You'll get a MUCH cleaner cutoff, and better color with a true HID projector. Ill take some pictures and attach them if you like. I'm planning on re-doing mine with new lenses, and bmw projectors, cause I fubared my lenses pretty bad in the learning process of doing this.

Default fixing the split pattern

Took the words out of my mouth, just finished doing this project, here are a couple photos to look at to show what the tab looks like, before and after.

This solved my problem of split pattern, good luck its worth it, didn't take that much work, but that little tab is a pita to get out, metal casting is hard to dremel, or grind out.

yep, thats exactly what i did, nice work. Now, the question is, do your lights leak? cause i had to re-seal mine 4 times, and the left one STILL leaks a little. What i should have done is put a bunch of sealent in the channel where the lens fits in, where the factory sealant lives. But NOO, instead I assumed it would reseal without a problem, and just sealed around the outside after I realized my lights leaked live siv's!, hehe oh well. 96sc, How did you mount the bulbs? Once again, I should have ground the back edge off the lens and used a true HID bulb holder, but instaed I just ground the 9006 notches into the HID bulb, and epoxy'd it in place. But hey, at least those HID bulbs last a little while, hehe
