Hey Folks,
Sorry if this has been covered. My search didn't pull up anything. . . . . . .Do we owners have the ability to do the navigation update ourselves on Gen 6 nav systems? The Gen 6 nav update comes via USB. I know many of the older cars have a DVD which is easily swapped out.
I am asking because Sewell sent out an email where they are accepting pre-orders for the 2012 nav update. All the instructions I have seen show how to update the DVD based vehicles and not those vehicles with hard drives.
If instructions are out here, please point me to them. Thanks!!
unless they have changed anything, the usb is just a key i believe. it's just like an authorization code. you still need to have this done at dealership where they hook up to dealership, and once the key is recognized and approved, then the data is downloaded from the computer at dealership to the car

I figured as much. Sounds like another one to a couple of hundred dollars in labor per car for the update. Thanks for the information.
i don't even think you can get this done at aftermarket shop
I'd say no to aftermarket as well. Like rominl said, what we buy is probably just a key. They probably hook it up to the shop/service computer and the hard drive in the car to do the sync/refresh. I certainly don't don't want ABC Mobile Audio attempting that on my car. I have had enough bad experience with bozo's at a non-dealership shop trying to install TPMS sensors. Ended up costing me double in the end. No thanks. To the dealer it will go.
I may be a little high with my estimate of $200. But I am sure you will get charged for at least an hours worth of labor.
