NAZTY97 - I have no argument with any of your assertions. All of your comments support my statement that 'ML' (figuratively speaking) did the best he could in designing a system for the LC where the priority was not on the quality of the audio system sound but rather the Vrooom, Vroooom sound.
while a larger cabin certainly has advantages, the LC ML system is weak in several other ways. for example, the front staging bias is so huge that moving the balance rear makes the volume plummet, which is ridiculous.
Is this done because of some purist notion? "Real" music reproduction must be front stage stereo.
what WAS the priority on then? also, "he" (Mark Levinson) hasn't been associated with the brand since the 1980s when ML became a brand of Harman International, which since 2017 has been part of Samsung.
This just flat out sucks. ML has to lend his name out for equipment he has nothing to do with.
In the summer of 1984 Levinson left MLAS and founded another company to produce audio equipment, Cello Ltd. Levinson became president and one of the three directors of Cello. MLAS launched a lawsuit attempting to prevent Levinson from working in the audio industry for the rest of his life, on the grounds that he was a "walking trade name" who could "diminish the value of their asset."[3]Levinson won the case in 1986 but lost the right to use his name as a trade name on an audio product.[4]
On the LC, the interior is not THAT hostile of a space for audio there are worse out there. A quality aftermarket audio shop could make a great sounding system in the car.

agreed.

In summary, we can all agree that the ML sound system can be improved with the addition of replacement speakers and/or additional components. And we can also agree that the current system, however deficient, is not so bad that a majority would take the steps necessary in upgrading it. Lexus designed this car and ultimately gave us an outstanding, one of a kind automobile. No where on their list of ‘must haves’ was there a requirement that this car be fitted with an outstanding audio sound system. That was not the sound system that received it highest priority. But rather it was the Vrooom, Vroooom sound that we loved most from our engines.
here's what I'm not understanding.... the site claims 13 speakers, 11 channel amp[, and 7.1 architecture.... this doesn't add up, as one,.... there aren't enough channels to drive each speaker, unless 2 channels share components ( front door and dash maybe ), but 13 speakers,... are we counting tweeters and woofers as separate speakers considering the rear speakers are coax?? 950 watts,....sounds about 200ish at best.....
Looks like you may be onto something there....I agree with your count...The ML system must be counting some virtual speakers generated during playback.
People equate specs to good sound doubt that is every going to change. Ultimately it doesn't matter what the specs are how many speakers there are and how many watts it's how it all sounds.
Especially watts you don't need 2000 watts in a car if you had that much usable power you would say goodbye to your hearing.
