Thats great. I wonder if replacing the gasket is pretty much the same thing as taking the exhaust off and retightening it, because the tolerances for this air gap are so tight that any adjustment, be it replacement or refitting, will likely fix it. But from a corporate standpoint, replacing an actual part (gasket) sounds like a more official fix for both the tech and customer.
On paper it shows if they were tight and and looks like they were. It just says exhaust gasket wasn't installed correctly and replacing both from the exhaust manifold ends.
It’s been two weeks today since I’ve had my CEL fixed. I now have 1200 miles on it and no issues. Gaskets appear to be the fix in my situation. Car has been great and hope this is the only fix needed for the majority. Feel really bad for those still having issues. I’m crossing my finger since my closest dealership is 315 miles away.
That usually means they set the torque to low or high. Probably the latter since they had to replace the gasket. I have a number of Subaru's and have seen recent recalls or service notices referring to under or over torqued parts from the factory. It's more likely with the first delivery's of a new model.
Got my car back from Lexus of Cerritos. Everything is good now. They test drove the car for 12 miles😂. My SA also advise another is500 came in for the same issue. They report the issue back to Lexus HQ already.
FWIW I called my local "servicing" dealer yesterday and they were absolutely clueless on the CEL issue. That or playing dumb for some reason. I even spoke with the service manager. Hope the service bulletin or what not comes out of Lexus Corporate soon. I'd rather not wait around for it to appear and just take the car in to get inspected, but at this point my dealer won't have any of it.
^^ To be honest, if a dealer hasn't sold a IS 500 and hasn't experienced the issue, I am not surprised. I went to a dealer a little distance away from where I live to see the LE that just arrived and they had no clue either, and in all fairness, most dealers are not enthusiast like we are....

I would normally agree, but same dealer tried to sell me their LE for a sweet, sweet markup. Maybe that one hasn't popped the code yet I guess.

My salesman thinks corporate will focus on the CEL issue this mont, hence their zero allocations for February. Said those in-transit will go back to the factory for updating and then sent back.

What's even more tragic is that I haven't even experienced the car fully yet. Trying to follow break in. First world problems...
DLPTony -- That seems a bit odd to return car in transit to be shipped back to the plant, especially when a gasket can easily be replaced at a dealer. I can see them holding back on production until they source a different part but returning cars in transit seems excessive but I could be wrong.

If they are in North America already, they may hold them up at the respective local port servicing hubs.
There is no way they are going back to “plant” or Japan for that matter..
^^ Thanks - That is my French that kicked in and the language barrier. I interpreted factory and plant as the same but I see what you mean now - DLPTony, sorry for my post and the confusion it created.
I think it’s because a gasket replacement isn’t necessary. A re-fitting seems sufficient. Replacing a part just sounds more reassuring. Some dude at Tahara probably just didn’t have his torque wrench set correctly LOL.
