So, I was trying to do that but getting the camera on when driving forward is not simple, and in fact trying to get it turned on probably contributed to what happened. It requires one button click to the Camera, then a wheel down to get out of self parking, then a wheel down to select the surround view camera. Super poorly designed.
That doesn't sound very easy to use, I have a single press hard button that instantly deploys the screen on 360 top view and front if I am in "D" and since it's a hard control I can hit it without looking

No, its really dumb. And when it senses something in front, it turns on the surround view camera, but leaves the side screen black and you have to click to make it display the front camera. Really dumb, in the Pacifica when it senses something in front it displays the surround view and the front camera automatically.

She's dropped off for the wheel repair
that is a bummer that the cameras don’t work to your satisfaction. Toyota added cameras to the new 2022 4R. Mine doesn’t have it as it’s a 2021, but I think I’d like to try it out
I love surround view cameras, its just silly the way the car implements them for forward scenarios.
So, annoying...dropped the car off at 9 before they opened at 10, was told to get it there first thing so they could get started and get it back to me today, they didnt start on it until 1:30...
Yeah it sucks, worse when it happens at places you pay to go there. I was at a new drive through. Didn't expect it to be that narrow and curbed my rear. Why do they have to have a narrow lane with high curb!!! Mine was worse but BMW repaired it like new. They did in house. Yours should be back to original no issue.

In most cases, no more wheel-rash or scratched bumpers. GM programs theirs so that you can switch it on or off at 6 MPH or less...I'd guess Mercedes is similar. I have one in my Encore GX, and absolutely love it. I use it every day, usually several times.
Both BMW and MB turn the cameras on when it senses an obstacle that think you potentially will it. How they program to work I'm not sure. The 360 camera button is my favorite on my BMW, whether I'm going in/out a tight spot or just in an empty parking lot. It guides me to park perfectly in the center.

I try the same on a 22 MB and an artificial screen would pop up instead of the 360 view like the BMW. It gives you a column of options to pick which cameras you want to activate so you will need to select something for it to display what you want to see. Not sure why they program this way but apparently someone thinks it's the best.

Do you mind if I ask what it cost for the repair at the BMW dealership? I have similar damage suffered on my G30 5 Series while backing out of a narrow lane on one side with a high curb on the other.
So annoying. After discussing with them over email, I elected to have the whole wheel machined. I don't like spot repairs, they always wind up dull looking in that area and just not right. The tech took it upon himself not to do what I asked and instead did a spot repair and it looks like I would expect it would.

I'd like these guys do do it right...I just don't have another full day to be without the car. Asking the MB dealer is an idea...at least I would get a loaner.

New wheel is $1,300
If you buy a new wheel. Get a tire put on the old one. In case you are on a long trip and you have the space in the trunk. You then have an emergency spare. So you don’t ruin your trip with a shredded tire etc etc.

I have wheel/tire package so it was free for me. But on the paper I saw they billed out 150. Interesting you asked.... After that incident, while waiting for my wife at a different shop, I stepped out to look at the damage. And went back inside the car waiting. I felt the owner of an S next to me staring at me so I turned to see what's wrong. I thought he wanted me to move a little so he could back out because the space was tight. But it turned out, he caught me checking the wheel. He said, "I know it hurts. But don't worry. Take it to the shop so and so by freeway... they will fix it for you no problem. It'll cost you less than 200." The SA gave me two options, fix there or send out. I could get it back same day if fixed there or 3 days if sent out. I couldn't tell what they did. Looks like original to me.

I'm just going to order a new wheel. F-it.
I have a buddy who swapped to aftermarket wheels on his Mom's S-Class (because one of them was bent) that I think might match yours... let me check.

I feel that. Had it happen to me with the A8, the screwed up the repair on one wheel when I first got the car (PO messed it up, not me). Ended up just buying a new rim as well
No full size spare in an S-Class? That sucks, would solve the problem. I had a ruined rim that I swapped out with the matching spare (I swapped tires) in my LS once.
