Mercedes had some early hiccups with their 48V system too, and they seem to be worked through. I wouldn't worry about that long term.

They could just design a car without the new for 48v or go full hybrid. (Which they have). This 48V makes things super complicated for the long term

The 48V system is awesome, just like any new technology there are some hiccups, but this is not a "common" thing with these systems. That X7 will go to the dealer and be fine. A few early W223s also had similar early no start issues and they were towed in and since they were very early there was some drama getting them repaired but now you never hear of that. Will be the same for BMW. If it were me I would wait a little bit if I were going to buy one, a W223 I would buy now without hesitation because they have it figured out.

I'd much rather have a car with a 48V system than a full hybrid.

Not to change the subject, but I had a boo boo last saturday rushing around trying to get out of town. I was pulling into the drive through ATM which has a very tight left turn that is narrow and curbed on both sides, and I curbed my right front wheel and the bumper. Bumper is just in the PPF, and it needed to be redone under warranty anyways, and it goes in for the wheel repair tomorrow. Since they are machined the whole wheel needs to be re-machined so hopefully that turns out well:

There is bank near me with a similar curb, I only use it with the Jeep since it has enough sidewall to totally shield the curb. I hate tight areas like that since they aren't common around here at all

This is something that has driven me crazy for years. Why do commercial developers insist on these 4-5" raised curb islands with hard 90 degree turns. There's a Whole Foods very close to me that has an awful amount of these things. Also, terribly placed bushes/shrubbery that completely blocks my view when making a turn.

My x5’s is awesome imo. This, however, is a new modified system supposed to improve a bit. But you’re right. They will most likely be corrected in a year or two.

I do think those are off road lights that people put on Wranglers on both sides of his hitch.

I'll give you a little tip to minimize the chances of something like that happening again: Turn on the overhead 360-camera whenever you are pulling into or out of a tight or confining space, and let the overhead view show you how close you are to an obstacle in front, behind, or on either side. In most cases, no more wheel-rash or scratched bumpers. GM programs theirs so that you can switch it on or off at 6 MPH or less...I'd guess Mercedes is similar. I have one in my Encore GX, and absolutely love it. I use it every day, usually several times.

So, I was trying to do that but getting the camera on when driving forward is not simple, and in fact trying to get it turned on probably contributed to what happened. It requires one button click to the Camera, then a wheel down to get out of self parking, then a wheel down to select the surround view camera. Super poorly designed.
