A Bentley or Rolls is a little bit of a different story. This is a Mercedes G Wagen…I mean it’s a cool car and all but I don’t see where you are getting a lot of handmade quality for your dollar here. Every time I look at one of these it seems to get $100k more expensive!

What I am saying is unnecessary is the $12,000 markup. I bet the dealer makes $75,000 off that vehicle and Mercedes probably makes $200,000 off that vehicle

like is this really necessary?

was it one of those crazy 4×4² models?

Yeah I'm sorry but just not seeing anywhere near $350k for that.

Waaay to high.
Like double what it should be.

Hate to see the depreciation on it.

A friend of a friend has one of those. He gave me the tour of it last Christmas. It's flourescent green or yellow (a wrap obviously) and insanely loud. Only owned by someone who really needs attention... He's owned just about every exotic under the sun. Lambo SUV was his daily, that G wagon was his fun car. I don't get it, but to each their own.

just speed is too much? without that it's kinda pointless, lol. like most users, i LOVE my hud. speed, directions, speed limit, blind spot indicators, etc.

Remote start is also nice, every time I walk up to it I do it just to hear the V8 exhaust rumble (and it does rumble....louder than I thought).
so on my lexus the remote start is a) a subscription (seriously?) and b) toyota/lexus remote start shuts off the moment you open the door which is the dumbest thing i've ever seen. i won't be renewing the subscription now that the complimentary period is almost up. :egads;

i hate the term 'presence' when it comes to cars. to me it equates to "bolsters the driver's ego".

Finally sat in the new S580 today. No doubt it is very nice. BUT, I think the design of the screens is step back for MB. I think your S-class has a better dash design.
i agree, ski slope (and hyperscreen) not great.

also thought the giant curve on the window frame was a bit strange.
that's to really make sure no wind noise creeps in.

haha - sure, fill the whole windshield.

it's all relative, for very wealthy people it's not a lot of money. and depreciation is irrelevant.

the G-wagen problem is that it prices out like 99.9999% of people who'd actually want to use it for what it's built to do... like this 4×4² uses portal axles! to make custom portal axles for such a low volume car is craziness, but nevertheless it's an insanely capable offroader and i struggle to even call it overpriced since who the hell else makes something even close

It’s a pretty hue though I wouldn’t choose this color. But it is a sleeper for sure.

G Wagen is high on my list of poser cars. Boxy, loud, very little utility. I'm positive it rides harsh. Up there with Hummer H1.
Every time I see one here in NYC, I just smh.

The current gen doesn’t ride harsh at all. Rides similar to a Tahoe. I love mine and already have a preorder deposit in for a facelift model.

oh it's absolutely terrible to drive (the original model up until 2018 at least) and is actually somewhat cramped inside

the steering is very heavy while at the same time being vague and uncommunicative, and the ride is definitely that of an old german army truck... also doug really isn't exaggerating when he points out how the completely vertical windows make dangerous reflections! either way when i see one being driven quickly on the highway i now think damn that takes ***** lol

but... with that V8 and side pipes it sounds like you're ripping a hole in the fabric of spacetime and after watching whistlindiesel put his through an unbelievable torture test i have a newfound respect for just how durable and well built those things really are underneath

and from a money standpoint they hold value almost like a 4Runner lol... a G55 would be my pick since i'm all about supercharged M113 life haha

Wow at that durability testing. I've never seen nor heard of this guy before but I like what I see a lot so far. If they get no sponsors etc., they just have the money to buy a 200k G-wagen to destroy????

So when you have a preorder deposit on something like that, once it gets delivered are you buying it at MSRP? When I was at the Land Rover dealership over the weekend discussing the crazy lead time on some Range Rover models, the sales guy said a lot of people who do 3 year leases will actually go ahead and put an order in for their NEXT Rover on the day they drive off in the current one. He said it was the only way for clients to buy at MSRP and avoid a dealer markup and there is a 2+ year wait on certain configurations.
