What gives??? I have no doubts M113 is a several hundred thousand mile motor. But M273 is junk….

for a start the M273 is much more complex, but i think toward the end of its run it got fairly more reliable... however i'd guess that emissions and whatnot forced mercedes to implement more tech that resulted in more failure points
I drove that SL550 and gunned it through second gear and was SHOCKED at the pickup from that 5.5.. I only had 5 seconds with the car, unfortunately.
I just don't know how nervous I'd be with an Ecoboost at 106k. I sure wouldn't buy one with that kind of mileage if it was an EB, I don't care what people say.
An American V8 on the other hand will last FOREVER.

However seems to me it is a remarkably solid car, I do not recall you mentioning major issues or BIG BIG bucks needed for repairs or anything. And you've had the car for YEARS now and love every second.
I'm sure all the maintenance sucks bc it's way more expensive bc AMG, but nature of the beast!

something that would've been big money was been replacing the entire fuel tank and sender unit that started leaking, but that was done under warranty! the fuel tank recall was extended out to 15 years so that all got replaced for free, with a loaner given! they gave me a GLC300, and i remember being like ya know... i think it's only fair i get the present day equivalent of my car while mine is being worked on... it got a brief chuckle out of politeness but a very firm no
maintenance also isn't particularly terrible, well, that is if you consider an E500 to be within reason lol... the only big 'AMG' cost is the extra fuel and the brakes but luckily those can last a looooong time under normal driving conditions... same concept as a big under-stressed V8! fit the car with gigantic cross-drilled rotors and 8 piston brembo calipers designed to stop 2+ tons from 190+ mph and they'll last for years and years when being driven like the grandpa sedan it is underneath lol
the instant violent torque of the supercharged V8 literally damages the car! i did a bunch of research after it happened and that generally seems to be the consensus... that as those bolts get older they're more prone to snapping when you hit the gas
the car isn't even particularly rusty... it spent the first decade of its life inside a florida garage being driven about 8k miles a year
