My sister just bought a new QX50 a few months back. The displays don't really bother me. It's a nice ride and I'm pretty impressed with the interior. I forget her trim level, but it's at the top. The light brown and dark brown interior with blue suede inserts. I'm more impressed with it than I thought I'd be. It's like this:
Had a stellar meeting with my new Mercedes mechanic today. The car does need brakes, and rotors. He's going to order the ceramic pads and MB OEM rotors and do the work the Monday after Thanksgiving. Awesome guy, we put the car up on the lift and he and his lead MB mechanic and I just hung out under it chatting about it and cars in general for 45 minutes or so. They were pointing out all kinds of things they liked about the way the car was engineered, it was actually really cool to be underneath it with them. He immediately smelled coolant and found residue from where it had leaked around the reservoir cap over the summer, they took the pan and the shield down in the front to make sure thats what it was and that there weren't any other leaks. The dealer had again way overfilled the coolant at the recent B Service and he pumped some out. Just like my Lexus guy, they're car guys that just really love the cars they are working on, spent a whole hour with me and didnt charge me a dime. Way better than the dealer any day.
He reinforced what I had said before, he said I should have no concerns about this car being more problematic than my LS460s.

Im very glad to hear you have a good set of guys working for you to keep your car as it should be!
I also agree you won't have any crazy issues. It's not a W220 or something like that......
Already??? Your car is just barely two years old, isn't it? You must be putting a lot of miles on it....or the pads have a very soft compound which wears quickly (and can also make a lot of black brake-dust). According to the wear-sensors on my almost two-year-old Encore GX, both the front and rear pads are on schedule to last around 80,000 miles. With around 10,000 miles, the sensors show 87% pad-life remaining.

Funnily enough the client who referred me to these guys has a 2000 W220 S500. He inherited it with 17,000 miles on it about 6 years ago and they have kept it running for him, it has about 85k on it now.

Just rolled over 30k miles.Pretty much 2 years old exactly. Its a big heavy car, and I drive it fairly hard. I have never had a car that has had a set of front brakes that have lasted longer than 25-30k miles. My Lexus cars always needed brakes around now too. MB also uses semi-metallic pads that dust to all hell, and cross drilled rotors. Whats interesting about this car vs the Lexuses is that it also need rear brakes, and in fact the rear brakes are more worn than the front. I'm told thats because of the distronic, that the car uses the rear brakes for the distronic and using that wears the rear brakes out faster which makes sense, and I use that a lot.

That is 100% correct. The German cars use the rears to make sure the fronts are always cool and ready to go if you need full power, mine does that as well in adaptive CC
Yeah that's neat about the rear brakes, also that would help make the braking feel more subtle.
All due respect to your mechanic I doubt what he says applies after 10 years and 250k miles versus an LS. But for your use an 95% of the rest, perfect.

If I recall correctly, my 2016 IS 300 AWD needed pads at 30k, but the rotors were just fine. I've got the high-friction pads on the RWD IS now, so I am really curious how they will hold up. Per the dealer they're still at 7 mm or more on each corner, and I've got just over 15k miles.
Which reminds me, I need to find myself a good shop as well. I don't plan on going back to the dealer unless it is a warranty issue.
