CarPlay
2. Multiple people did reply directly about it, you just clearly didn't read what they said.
My response is they did not compare reaction times using CarPlay to reaction times interacting with a car's native infotainment system. There is no question that vehicle infotainment is distracting, but it exists and its not going away, the question is whether or not CarPlay is more or less distracting. My money would be on it being less distracting because its less complicated and Apple does a better job designing a UI. You see the difference there between Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the same sort of thing but the implementation in Android causes slightly less distraction.
Additional technology like automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist helps mitigate the risks of distraction by intervening when a driver isn't paying attention.
The other issue is CarPlay uses a LOT of battery power, so you're going to want your phone charging anyways.
The new cars have augmented reality right on the windshield where it tells you which lane to be in during a nav session. Thats da bomb...
Celebrating Lexus & Toyota from Around the Globe
A long time ago, I did use a smartphone for navigating places (on and off; often I wouldn't even be bothered to use the navigation because I didn't need to) but that encouraged lazy behavior, which is what these systems do a great job of. I see it quite a bit. I pass by people and they have their phones mounted on the dash with navigation up. My wife can't remember how to get anywhere because her phone tells her how to do it. She doesn't need to remember the directions.
