1. Its not the topic of the thread.
2. Multiple people did reply directly about it, you just clearly didn't read what they said.

My response is they did not compare reaction times using CarPlay to reaction times interacting with a car's native infotainment system. There is no question that vehicle infotainment is distracting, but it exists and its not going away, the question is whether or not CarPlay is more or less distracting. My money would be on it being less distracting because its less complicated and Apple does a better job designing a UI. You see the difference there between Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the same sort of thing but the implementation in Android causes slightly less distraction.

Additional technology like automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist helps mitigate the risks of distraction by intervening when a driver isn't paying attention.

It depends on the car, some work well, some don't. I have a wireless adapter in the Pacifica which works GREAT, but that same adapter doesn't work nearly as well in my Mercedes.

The other issue is CarPlay uses a LOT of battery power, so you're going to want your phone charging anyways.

I wouldn't want to rely on those technologies because I'm distracted by apple carplay. They aren't perfect and they might not work when you need them to.

I've done 4 cross country trips pre-nav and the maps were easy to use but middle American roads are very easy to navigate. Go to San Francisco or Los Angeles and I thank god for the Nav functions where it tells you what lane to be in. Try LA...oh my god. There are sections where multiple highways intersect and its complete cluster to move around in and if you get stuck in the wrong highway, you just lost an hour of time. lol.

The new cars have augmented reality right on the windshield where it tells you which lane to be in during a nav session. Thats da bomb...

Don't quote me on this... but I believe that BMW's CarPlay uses Wifi to make the handshake first then BT takes over. You can try to turn off BT and see that Wifi alone won't connect your phone. Audio is indeed transferred via Wifi. Thus, sound is transferred in higher quality (than BT). This seems to be the main selling point for some BMW owners. I personally don't have a need for it because I use direct transfer. And after a few frozen maps, I choose not to use it. Only when my wife sends me location via text.

Wireless CarPlay works fine on my X5. Some do complain about it draining the battery but you can just place it on the charging pad. It charges for you and the phone in that location can also be used as a key if you need. Unfortunately due to shortage, many don't come with wireless chargers.

No actually its the reverse, BT is used to setup the wifi connection, then CarPlay uses wifi to "airplay" everything to the headhunt, using Wifi. I have wireless CarPlay in my car using a GROM unit. I did some research and the underlying tech to get audio and video back and forth is the same as AirPlay.

Thats how all wireless CarPlay works, even with a third party adapter. CarPlay transfers too much data to use Bluetooth. It uses BT for the initial connection then it remains connected over WiFi.

BMW has the best Wireless CarPlay in the industry.

I actually find BMWs native idrive better than Carplay. Almost everyone I know uses Carplay in their BMWs, but I've been using idrive since version 1, so I'm more used to it and find Carplay redundant.

How would you know you are distracted by something you refuse to even try?

The wireless charger is absolutely useless, it charges too slow and the phone gets super hot if its streaming music via BT. I bought a mount from Kuda and charge my phone with a cable - if anyone needs a good mount I highly recommend them, I've used them in all of my BMWs and Lexus cars, very high quality integrated products.

I'm not remotely interested in it. That's why. I don't need to check messages or have them read to me while driving, for instance. Even if I were into all this stuff, it seems like a lot of work figuring out what to set up, getting your apps to work on the screen, etc. I have no interest in it.

A long time ago, I did use a smartphone for navigating places (on and off; often I wouldn't even be bothered to use the navigation because I didn't need to) but that encouraged lazy behavior, which is what these systems do a great job of. I see it quite a bit. I pass by people and they have their phones mounted on the dash with navigation up. My wife can't remember how to get anywhere because her phone tells her how to do it. She doesn't need to remember the directions.

Then why do you insist on chiming into every thread about technology you are admittedly not remotely interested in? Why can't we talk about what we are in fact interested in?

I'm planning to reupholster it, but will probably never get around to it. In my e70 it looks real nice black on black.
