And the CyberBeast Foundation series
first, of course those are loony dollars $1CDN now $0.73USD
so $137990CDN = $100732USD

second, looks like cybertruck is subject to ludicrous 20% luxury AND 15% sales tax.

third, the foundation and cyberbeast trims are top of the top and later the 'normal' trims will be available for a lot less.

fourth, you're not likely to buy new anyway.

fifth, i can't imagine you're interested in the cybertruck anyway?

For a Canadian resident $138K CAD is still $138K CAD. We get paid in CAD.

Same thing with the extra taxes - I live in Canada , so those taxes have to be paid if I buy one. They're still part of the cost.

Never say never about not buying new. Things can change.

I think the 15 minutes are over.

They continue to be popular but the crazy hype is over.

Yes, they are designing the built in generator to mount in the rear bed.

Market for a $100K+ pickup is a lot smaller than the original $40K base model.

exactly. And these are the only currently offered configurations. You can only get a Foundation Series today, so no regular orders have been fulfilled and none of the lower priced trims have yet been built. There won’t be as many sold as were pre-ordered, but it’s too soon to say the hype is over as the only ones sold so far were to buyers willing to pay a premium and that by definition is a much smaller market segment.

Gap between $80K and $100k is considerable. I got my R1S at a steal because of preorder pricing (~$82K vs. $100K+), but when they first announced that they weren't going to honor preorder pricing, I cancelled my preorder. Add in the controversial styling of the CT and the pool gets smaller.

I'm not saying the demand isn't falling off because it certainly is if deliveries can be made within a few weeks, but I expect it to pick back up somewhat after the more affordable variants are released.

$20k plus the tax on is not chump change my friend. People are hesitant over $1500 paint options. Guilty 😔

One great thing about NJ is that we have 0 sales tax on EV sales . We might overtax on a lot of things, but EVs aren't one of them! (for now)

true, but presumably salaries are commensurate too with exchange rates, but my point was u.s. CL users will think it's $138k u.s., so was just clarifying.

true. my point was it isn't tesla stiffing the consumer, it's your government.

what do you base that on besides your fervent wish that ev's don't continue to grow in marketshare and your beloved v8's somehow become popular again (which won't happen)?

I'm not really ok with 0 percent tax on EV's because it gives an unfair market advantage.

And I think the Cyber truck should get a double tax because of visual styling pollution damage to the environment.
Spoiler

Roads and schools in my neighborhood are really good though

but I'm guilty of taking this off topic. All in all, I think it'll be hard to judge the popularity of the CT until the cheaper variants are introduced. Not sure exactly how much it'll move the needle, but it should move some units (regardless of what I think about its actual looks). I will say I'm seeing 1-2 on a daily basis in Central NJ now. There's a small local farm about 10 minutes away from me that has one and it's often in the field doing truck things when we drive by

I see about a 3 a day minimum. When I go to SoCal, triple that number
