folding mirrors are helpful in tight parking spots / garages. i even like them being folded when parked on the street so wandering cars don't lop off a mirror.

and as has been said, it's not about need.

wireless charging pads are great because cords suck.

It does seem like Lexus made tremendous efforts to reduce weight. So not sure how much those little motors in the mirrors might help, or the elimination of the charge pad. But in the overall picture, Lexus has made small efforts here and there
mirror motor weight was not the issue, but i do agree that reducing corner unsprung weight is great for improved handling and ride quality.

what i think is weak is the features aren't available at all. if they were an option at least it wouldn't be so bad. and there's little excuse because power mirrors are offered by lexus elsewhere. maybe not a wireless pad as i don't see where it would go?

And these new Lexus mirrors stick out a LOT. Thats one thing I noticed when I drove the LS500, the space between the mirror and the A pillar is like 3-4 times what it is in my LS460 (and all the other Lexus sedans that used those mirrors) so, power folding mirrors are even more important. They're going to need to be folded going into carwashes, etc and like you said they auto-fold when locked which is great for whenever the car is parked

Look how far these stick out:

Aren’t the seats also fake leather in Fsport or have they changed that?

Also don't agree with the tremendous leaps to save weight. This was all pretty standard stuff to reduce weight. Lighter wheels, change some suspension components to aluminum etc.

Tremendous leaps in my opinion is if they added Carbon Fiber structural pieces and aluminum chassis while cost being similar. That to me is a tremendous leap (this is not taking away from the engineering that must be done to changes they did make)
Fair point. I think Lexus is going after the real sport part of this segment. My guess is that the handling will be perhaps the best in the class with the tweaks here and the tweaks there...of course, one has to filter through the real stuff of the marketing BS....I know that when you get to the track edition, they removed a bunch of motors and such from interior parts for the RC-F. I see the power motors not being offered as something that maybe they should offer...I certainly do not see the charging pad being a big deal in any way.....but everyone is entitled to their own opinions and perspectives on the matter.......I just look at it as, they add a torsen differential and perhaps other tweaks vs power mirrors/charge pad....the true enthusiast should know what is more important

How does "going after the real sport part of this segment" mean they shouldn't offer features that are ubiquitous in competitors cars at this point? This is just cost cutting. Call it what it is. In a car like the track edition that makes sense to save weight, but that doesnt make any sense in the mainstream version of the car.

As for the wireless charger, all I use are wireless chargers. They're great. I even installed on in my LS. Wireless cradles at my desks at home and at work, wireless cradle on my dresser, wireless charger on the kitchen island, end table in the living room, phone is always 100% charged.

There is no way a chassis developed 10years ago can be as good as the new stuff.

Please go drive the new G20 3series. Just had one as a loaner.
The chassis rigidity on that car is incredible. It corners perfectly flat and the ride over significant potholes is composed and you feel almost nothing in the cabin. The suspension components are almost all of aluminum.

Mind you this was a base 330i xdrive non-Msport. It can do 0-60 in 5.3 seconds or so.
The car dynamically is definite improvement over the F30 3series.

I agree there's no way an old chassis can be made to be best in class when the competition are all on new chassis.

That depends on how bad the current New N series platform was compared to the competition, and how unmodifiable those problem areas were. In addition what were the targets for this model exactly?

Yes TGNA-N ((if it existed) would be a solid foundation, but as outsiders from the development program have little to no insight on the specs.

Until we see first drive reports, its all theories.

I wish it looked like this when it first came out. In 2014 this would have been a winner, but in 2021, those drivetrains and interior designs are DOA.

I haven’t read everything but I assume that since they didn’t add things like power folding mirrors or wireless charging, they also didn’t add HUD or 360 camera?

As for someone that mentioned Nuluxe, I really like it in my ‘16 IS350. I would go far enough to say I like it better than real leather most of the time (not in a car like the LS though).

How different is New N from the old N platform?

What's strange is that the Crown that came out around the same time as the 4GS was on the older N platform. Was there a reason why? Did Toyota not consider the New N platform to be enough of an update?
Funny how the tables have turned as the new Crown gets the TNGA platform while the Lexus is the one with the older platform.

Logging back in after several years to say that I am massively disappointed. My wife had green-lit this as my next purchase since 3 years ago and it looks like I will have to go elsewhere. A TLX Type-S will definitely be too much for me so maybe an A-Spec. This isn't even competitive with Infiniti Q50's. I was really, hoping we'd get something truly new but alas this is truly another half-hearted refresh, event, and overall effort by Lexus. What a downer.

Just get a G70. Its about the same size and handles great and has 365hp. Its probably cheaper too.
