OMG just watching now this launch on Facebook - this lady (Marketing VP) gives all non-answers to the questions. Her voice and tone are as excited about this IS as reading the encyclopedia and she is supposed to be marketing it lol
At least Townsend Bell had some personality and comes off very knowledgeable. Lexus should increase his pay.
ISF - they said they are waiting for feedback? Ppl have been begging since 2014 for new ISF!
They should follow what Tech companies do. Marketing needs to step aside and let product managers and head of engineering talk about their creation in a reveal. At least they will talk proudly of what they came up with.
I like the refreshed body. It's sharper, with more straight lines and creases. Headlights look good too. But bringing back the circular tailpipes is really surprising. The current tips are much more interesting. There's a lot on the inside I don't like. Never been a fan of circuit red. It's too bright and gaudy. Rioja has a richer, classier look. Also surprised they took out the silver trim from the steering wheel. The all-black appearance looks plain and stark. I'm also not a fan of touchpad screens, which are fingerprint messes. For those that keep things neat and clean, it's like fingers on a chalkboard.
Having just leased a new 2020 IS350 F-Sport, I really had my eye on what they would do with the 2021. From an appearance standpoint alone, I'd consider this when my lease is up. Mechanically, I'm content they left things as-is. I feel the 3.5 V6 is a very worthy and refined powerplant and appreciate the value/lower cost.
Very curious to see what the base model looks like.
What does one need power folding mirrors or wireless charging pads in a “sports sedan”? It’s just being negative for the sake of being negative.
Well for once power folding mirrors are obvious cost cutting measures cause that same car has that feature on other markets. Truth be told the cheapest you can buy a Lexus is in US so not having power folding mirrors is not a cardinal sin.
Because it's also supposed to be a luxury vehicle too
Power folding mirror are nice. But the wireless charging pads are dumb (my opinion).
It does seem like Lexus made tremendous efforts to reduce weight. So not sure how much those little motors in the mirrors might help, or the elimination of the charge pad. But in the overall picture, Lexus has made small efforts here and there
The mirror weight savings was incredible at 1 lb for each mirror and the lack of wireless charging saves a whole 0.5 lbs. They also saved a ton of weight by not adding turbos to their V6 and adding 19 inch wheels... By doing all these weight savings measures, they achieved an incredible 0 second improvement in 0-60. Since the car has no improvement in speed, they must have either de-tuned the engine (not likely as its advertised at 311hp) or....there was no real weight savings...

Its a luxury car. Its not about "need". And people who like sporty sedans also like to charge their phones and fold their mirrors in.
Complaining that the car doesn't have basic features that other similar cars have and that cars in Toyota's own lineup have at much lower price points is not "being negative for the sake of being negative".
Those are not make or break features but you definitely expect certain features to be in cars that will cost 50k from a luxury brand. Lexus used to offer a lot of features at a lower price point, now sometimes they are on the opposite end, charging higher prices and leaving out little stuff like this.
Also don't agree with the tremendous leaps to save weight. This was all pretty standard stuff to reduce weight. Lighter wheels, change some suspension components to aluminum etc.
Tremendous leaps in my opinion is if they added Carbon Fiber structural pieces and aluminum chassis while cost being similar. That to me is a tremendous leap (this is not taking away from the engineering that must be done to changes they did make)
Its like when the 4GS came out and we all got them, none of us could believe they were so cheap as to delete the power folding mirrors and power trunk for the 3GS in the US market. Not elsewhere...just here. 2014 saw them come back
