Thats the other thing - since they are still using the same old powertrains, they should of just kept production of the GS and also gave it same type of refresh.

GS is way superior car to the IS in every way. I wish sometimes these so-called decision makers explain themselves.....

Such as?

They updated a few suspension pieces from steel to lighter materials which Germans don’t even have steel for most of suspension parts. Look at BMW Supra suspension for example.

I read press release and basically you need IS350 and Dynamic Handling Package to get Sport S+, spoiler, carbon mirrors and Torsen LSD. That will be unicorn spec, special order only.

It’s time for Akio Toyoda to step down!! Ever since he took the helm, Lexus has released nothing but a slew of disappointing vehicles! Lexus idled in the past decade while other manufacturers released vehicles with more advanced powertrains and Interior. Everything Lexus sells these days is antiquated and hideous. At this point I honestly believe Lexus is going down the drain! Akio needs to go!!

Unfortunately the GS sold terribly, especially after the refresh. The current IS is far from a sales success but it is doing double the volume of the GS.

The much ado about nothing has been the Lexus trademark for awhile now. Soon all they'll offer is crossovers and the ES. Watching that reveal with the Q&A says it all. Our customers are sheep. We don't care about the competition, we built this for the very unique subset of performance loving Lexus 3IS fan-boys only.

GS price point was a failure. The car itself should have replaced the IS and given the same refresh.

doesn’t seem like the people doing the reveil had anything to do with the development. They just announce from a script being told what to say by Toyota HQ.

Do something with passion, smash a window with a hammer at the reveil if you felt like it. Don’t just say your demographics are Altezza fan boys from a video game.

OMG just watching now this launch on Facebook - this lady (Marketing VP) gives all non-answers to the questions. Her voice and tone are as excited about this IS as reading the encyclopedia and she is supposed to be marketing it lol

At least Townsend Bell had some personality and comes off very knowledgeable. Lexus should increase his pay.

ISF - they said they are waiting for feedback? Ppl have been begging since 2014 for new ISF!

GS sold well for first 2.5 years.
Then they completely ended the lease programs on them and ppl had to pay same price for GS350 as a 5series or Eclass. The refresh styling also didn’t help.

IS sales remain better bec of the lease program on the base models but the GS is the better car by far.
Its a shame that Hyundai can make a new car like the G80 from scratch and at same time Toyota decides to discontinue a legacy model and one of the best cars they ever made.

That reminds me. Comparing this IS refresh to Hyundai's recently announced Santa Fe refresh is like night and day. Toyota revised the exterior of the IS and kept almost everything else the same, while Hyundai replaced the entire powertrain and chassis of the Santa Fe with that of their newest vehicles and still called it a "refresh". It really does demonstrate the 180 difference in corporate philosophy between the two companies. And while I would rather find a middle ground between the two extremes, the IS would have greatly benefited from the Hyundai approach this time around.

With the G70 also getting more powerful engines and a revised interior/exterior refresh later this year, Lexus's efforts on the IS will be under even more scrutiny. To be releasing this IS in its current state as it faces the double whammy of the refresh G70 and new TLX is already asking for trouble. Won't bother to put the Germans in this conversation.

However, Lexus refreshing the IS over the GS was the correct decision from a corporate perspective. It makes more sense to keep the cheaper, higher volume car around than the GS, even if the GS is much better. You also won't get many Lexus buyers cross-shopping the IS and ES like they did the GS and ES.

adding torsen lsd, less unsprung weight, etc., are nice tweaks for sure. but now you can only get the v6 with the f-sport package... not everyone wants tight seat bolsters and "F" all over the place.

i'm afraid you're likely correct. lexus dealers just don't like to carry high trim level vehicles. at. all. they'd rather be lazy and sell ES and RX all day long.

i'm sure this IS will be nice and fun to drive, with great handling, very good outside looks, and an improved interior (screen in particular, and getting rid of the control wart, but not much else).

i also expect the 'fun' one, f-sport is350 with dynamic handling package, will be high 50s and order only.

So it's been a while since i looked at the IS in any detail...

does it, even this new one, have a wireless charging pad? And does it have power folding mirrors?
i read somewhere neither are available.
