The evolution of the IS might be disappointing to those who were waiting for a TGNA-L revision (including myself), but I think most buyers will be impressed with the design tweaks, and standard kit and convenience a entry level rwd luxury sedan brings to the table.

I don't think so, there's far too many options now. This is the most under powered car in the class and it's extremely dated. Not to mention Sedan sales are hurting. Nobody in their right mind would buy this car.

First thing Lexus needs to do when these show up in dealers is to offer an aggressive lease deal right off the bat.

Sedan sales are hurting everyone, including those with the badge, the horsepower, and the kit to make these best in class, so the question is would it be worth it for Lexus, whose trailing the big wigs by a huge margin to invest in an all new clean sheet design.
The bigger takeway I assume is this is a stop gap measure till the public unveiling of the internal 5 year plan where entry level luxury is defined as either the ES or whatever replaces the IS in hybrid or electric form.

While hurting they still sell and The BMW 3 series is selling well as is the C class Mercedes. Genesis has refreshed the G70 and it looks better than anything Lexus currently offers in a Sedan, is faster too. Unless Lexus just totally plans to scrap all sedans they need to do something because the IS is going on 10 years of looking nearly the same with the same boring HP numbers.
Looks way better on the IS than it does on the ES at least.
Styling is always very subjective.
You could do a poll to objectively find out exactly what percentage of the population prefers 3.5IS to 7ES rear end styling I guess.
I love 7ES's "whale-like" tail and those polygonal exhaust tips.
However, there are those who prefer the more natural looking traditional round/oval exhaust tips.
Whatever the case, I hope that the ageing 3.5IS major reskin can continue to heavily outsell the Genesis G70.
The G70's additional HP doesn't really matter - it is the all round package that counts, and hopefully the ageing 3.5IS can continue to deliver.
The first 8 months of this year, the ageing IS pre-major refresh has done 7,190 to G70's 6,225.
IS may finish 2020 with around 10,785, while G70 finishes with 9,337, but hopefully a major IS refresh makes the IS sales lead bigger...

The IS has 5x the dealer network and barely outsells it. Many of the enthusiasts have switched to the BMW in the 3IS forums. The IS isn't going to cater to the enthusiasts that well with the current powertrains. The 350 is about as fast as the competition's base engines and the vast majority of IS sales are the 2L turbo. Its targeted at a very specific buyer now...those who care about reliability and want to look good in a sedan but probably doesn't care too much about the performance. Lets not pretend the car is a performance vehicle though...its really slow compared to its competition.

Agree that they are outselling the Lexus, however the numbers for the big 3 European markets have drastically shrunk as well, and its not like those former buyers decided to go to a different brand; they drove in with a 3 series and left in a x3.
I`m all for a new Lexus IS based on the TGNA rwd platform but it doesnt make sense as a business when the market is shrinking for even the most reputable class leaders.
