2015 Genesis Sedan Thread
I totally agree. It is definitely getting a little long in the tooth. Even in my car reviews, where I describe a car stem-to-stern in detail and give a long list of plusses/minuses, I generally don't pan a vehicle for something that looks like a copy of another one. It is extremely difficult, nowadays, with the sheer number of vehicles now or formerly in production, to design something that is TRULY new and doesn't look like SOMEBODY else, somewhere down the line. IMO, people that harp on this are just beating a dead horse.
Similarities between Lexus and Hyundai will be made because of the rapid rise of both brands in such a short time plus the fact that they were both making better cars than their competitors for less money.
In my book imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Hyundai isn't taking jabs at luxury automaker. They are simply looking over the fence .......LIKE WE ALL DO
What utter bull****. It's one thing to say "I don't see any similarity between the Genesis interior and the 5er interior" (which you'd have to be blind to say anyway), but to place all three of those interiors on the same level is just a flat out lie.
Compare the 3 center stacks:

Now honestly tell me, how on earth is the GS in the same league of similarity as the Genesis and 5 series? Ask any 6 year old and they will quickly tell you one of those does not belong. Furthermore, the Genesis and 5 series both use a similar rotary **** system for their infotainment. The GS uses a unique remote touch system, which looks nothing like the other two.
The only similarity with the GS and the German interiors is the horizontal theme. But that's like saying since two songs are about love, they must be exactly the same. In fact the GS and Lexus interiors in general are nothing like their German counterparts. The Germans like to use little brightwork highlights around everything (like around the ***** and strips under the buttons in the Genesis and 5er interiors). Lexus has never been into that stuff. Hyundai meanwhile is attempting to fool people into thinking its interior is as good as any German interior, by mimicking all those little details. Not an ounce of originality or thought or care. Simply take what others have done and massage it for their own use. Then again all the Germans do is copy eachother, Now there is a South Korean competitor getting in on the action.
It's like that nerdy kid in highschool trying to associate himself with the cool kids by sitting close to them at lunch time, eating what they eat and talking like they do. One day someone asks: "do you guys know this kid"? They'll be like "ahh no..." "really? he's been sitting next to you for the last year, you've never noticed him?" "uh sorry no we haven't".
They would have to be wearing some really blinding Hyundai shades to say anything different.

i'm certain there are many of these boxy shape nav unit with buttons and ***** on the side everywhere.

are they blatantly copying each other? lol
i could go on and on about similarities in virtually all cars. there is no such thing as 100% original. nobody is saying this is the most original car in the world. hell no it isn't. but a direct copy of this and that is getting so old.

agreed. Avalon's interior looks good on pictures, but in person it's somewhat disappointing. on the other hand, azera's interior looks awful in the picture. it's even worse in person. i just can stand its ugly shape
Exactly, that and the constant "hey is nice new Sonata" got old in a hurry when I owned my Azera. However the interior was well built and of quality materials. The new Avalon as pointed out is nice from a looks perspective but is cheap/flimsy and rattles...a LOT.
of course it's similar. it definitely has a bmw 'vibe'. color scheme is similar. shape is similar. last gen had more infiniti vibe with curved dash. but saying this is chinese knock off is flat out hilarious. it's just hatin'.

i think this new genesis is decent looking in and out, regardless of where the design cues come from - i really don't care.
If you want ultimate quality look no further than 80's Toyota's. Thickly molded plastics, dampened interior controls, many electric features such as heated wing mirrors and most importantly velour interior upholstry. Top notch quality there.
I agree the Genesis is very solid much more than the Optima.. The doors are solid and do not sound "hollow" at all... I'm basing this off my co workers 2010 genesis 4.6... I can only imagine what the new one will feel like...
does this include samsung telesivions, tablets, computers, and phones?
while you might not like one, do you think the hyundai equus is 'flimsy'?
not sure what 30 years ago has to do with today... what about toyotas today?
