This is an accurate observation.

jill, thank you for sharing your pov. some comments…

mike (1SICKLEX) and i agree it was too ‘tightly controlled’ in the past. i was certainly subject to that too. we don’t want to have everyone treated like children, but sometimes when users blatantly act like spoiled brats throwing tantrums, things must be reined in.

-banning politics is an error if engagement is what is desired.
Everything automotive is political…for example (Canada’s pivot to China for electric vehicles was a political statement). How else does one frame the discussion?
agree that politics enters most things, but it’s one thing to politely express what one feels will be the consequences of government policies or between nations, and we have tried to allow some recently but it usually just dives right into pretty terrible far left or right (or just personal) comments like this below that might give the poster a chuckle but are likely to irritate others.

keep it civil, talk about policy, not people.

-closing threads is mostly a mistake.
we reluctantly (and more rarely now) close threads that are persistently negative (offering nothing constructive), heated, political, widely off topic or filled with personal attacks, or usually some combination of all those things. ClubLexus should not be a place for people to just spew hate and attack other members.

-the merge of the EV and ICE threads was an excellent decision.
appreciate that! because the pros/cons and even just opinions about EV and ICE is the biggest topic in cars.

-allowing swear words was a big mistake
this is the internet. not church.

-one request..please don’t close the Hyundai/Kia recall thread… that thread is epic…it truly brings balance to the force
it almost certainly won’t be closed, but if there were balance, you’d also create ones for all the toyota/lexus recalls and other brands too.

appreciate this too! none of us is perfect, and leaders here are volunteers, with lives involving many other things, so can’t be everywhere or always make the “right” call. but we do also internally discuss what we might be doing well and not so well.

One last thing. Public outing of someone who reports another member... should not happen. Take them to PM if you want to tongue lash them.
thanks! yes civility is super important! people are not always logical, lol, and there’s lots of ‘gray’ areas, so it’s challenging. we’re going to allow ‘drift’ of topics, but not when it’s completely irrelevant (like discussing gas prices in an ev thread ).

thanks again.

I don't want to fight with anyone on here but I love debating. I can do it without insulting anyone...

CL is my peaceful sanctuary of some car buddies, if I want to get nasty I'll go to AcuraZine. They are ridiculous there and IDGAF about anyone on there.

I disagree with that. One of the benefits of an EV is not having to fill up with gas. Gas savings, hence price, is a relevant topic of discussion even in an EV thread.

talking about savings on an ev is one thing… going back and forth on gas prices in various places all over the country and then bringing politics into it as to why california’s gas prices are higher, war in iran, etc., etc. is what typically happens, which has NOTHING to do with ev’s.

We have a very large family. During the big holidays, we take turn to host with one condition - No politics. I'm quite neutral but have seen craziness from both sides. Lol.

I don't think politics discussion will end well anywhere. And CL is no exception. What's worse IMO is people intentionally twist your posts/answers to fit their narratives. Lol. Report or ignore and move on seem like a good move. Heck we can smell politics within a thread complaining about politics.

I think so too. These threads may seem valid but at the same time we should not allow non car related threads popping up here. They usually don't end well. Maybe The ClubHouse is a better place to house these threads?

Personally?.......Probably not, in the sense that I am a political Independent, combining some left-wing economic views (such as pro-union) with strongly right-wing views on other cultural issues such as religion and morals. But I have known some people who have told me that, over the years, their own experience and views have changed and come to agree with mine.

Is that political or just being a decent human being? Morals aren't political. Wanting to take care of people or wanting the best for people isn't political. I'm not religious, so I can't comment on that aspect, but I don't know whether any of the other things are necessarily political dividing lines as much as they are indicators of whether you are a decent human being. And for the record, Mike, I'm 100% confident that you are.

I don't see how one political ideology has a monopoly on morals. PLENTY of totally immoral people on the right and the left.

Also my experience has shown me that religion and morals also don't go hand in hand. I have known and seen MANY religious people that were extremely immoral. There's a saying in my business when someone's voicemail sais "have a blessed day", may as well bend over.

I wasn't arguing that. I was only stating my position, and lifestyle, in reply to tex's question.

Please make a new thread about something car related you feel like talking about, if you feel like it.

I'll be happy to post and lift you up.
