The Jetta mostly and a Tiguan here and there but other than that I don’t notice them in the sea of everything else…

Their sales volume is not reduced, the profits dropped. Probably has to do insane regulations and skyrocketing energy prices in Europe, as well as wasteful EV programs. They should move these jobs and manufacturing elsewhere, let EU reap what they deserve.

I actually saw one today actually, a beige one. It was a '99, final edition. Never seen that one before around. Still had bitchin' road presence. Beige cars don't usually stand out.
At the time the US was in a pretty bad recession and the conspicuous consumption of the 80s was no longer in fashion. A lot of people thought the W140 was too in your face given the economy at the time. Thats one of the reasons why the W220 got smaller and cheaper.

I just love the 2 tone paint, and it had the dish rims. Seriously nice.
Nothing wrong with it, they're just too ostentatious for me. Too much chrome and bling.

Who cares? I know it's your opinion that the economy sucks-- not one but two FB friends have bought Ferraris in the past week, damn them lol. They're also quitttttte expensive. Conspicuous consumption is still alive and well, more than ever. Those are absurdly absurd cars, and that's absurd but in a good way. Believe it or not the W140 was actually shorter than the previous W126.

A lot of people also practically worshiped that car, myself included. You are correct that the car wasn't too well received at first by SOME, but that ain't all.

Well, a W220 S500 was around $90,000 which was close to the previous W140 S500. Didn't have the build quality and materials as nice as the W140.

That was also peak LS400 and LS430 build years when Lexus was actually a serious threat to the S-Class for way less money.

I do think W220s look good, have aged well. But nothing beats the W140.

Damn! Are you 550 at the wheels? You could run with a Model 3 Performance.

I love the videos from the Texas 2k event. I should go one of these years. I think I'd have a blast.

What does the current economy have to do with what things were like in the early 90s? We’re talking about 1992 not now

As for now the economy is great if you have money. Not great if you don’t.

Well, a W220 S500 was around $90,000 which was close to the previous W140 S500. Didn't have the build quality and materials as nice as the W140.
Just look it up. It was considerably cheaper.

Because you think the economy is the reason, or a main reason you think the W140 "wasn't well received". Nobody gave a **** who was dead-set on buying an S-Class what anyone (people mostly in Europe I might add) thought. Back in the day when my father lived in Boca it was all S-classes he and his business associates drove... they wouldn't even look at or talk about an LS400...which was a pity honestly. But no, it was "big black S-Class" or nothing in that situation, can;t believe that was 30 years ago. Now everyone wants hulking SUVs for luxury cars.

I have. The LS430 article that everyone pastes the comparison test, as we all noted the S430 finished last and was almost 90 grand...didn't even have a CD player. You could fully end up with an S500 90k easy with the W220, and as you/me/evefyone says it was an inferior car. They look good though, the styling was great.

This was the last sentence in the article: "For a chart-topping $87,975, we can hold our applause." Lol and you could get an UL LS430 for almost 20 grand cheaper, the one in that test was $70,000. That's almost shocking, looking back. The W140 was very expensive too but it was worth the money IMO at least. One of the last Benzes, when they were built to a standard and not a price.... engineers given a blank check.

1) Some people debadge their cars
2) 2 seconds in the race the Tesla already lost
3) that’s not me but looks like speed limit officer 👮‍♀️

Go pro 360 camera

That one's a V8. Gotta step up to the 680 to get the V12. Would still love either one

Lol I knew that was no V12! This is amusing to me though. Can I not see a super nice brand new Yukon lower end model (but still a really nice truck) and comment or think "there's a Denali with a way bigger engine?" LOL. I'm not being a smart ***, just laughing at it.
