This is exactly what I've been trying to tell you over the years...
You don't have to be a car person to not like crap engines, conversely you don't have to be one to love a good engine either.
And the masses hate these junk engines more than you think (hence your story), even if economy is so high on their list.
Oh I have always agreed with you about the engines, but let’s put it this way these women didn’t know their cars had 4 cyl engines. They just knew they didn’t like how they felt. So it’s not impacting buying behavior.
anyone else noticed that users who write about 'tiers' drive decade or two old "back in the day" luxo cars?
Ever notice it's always the EV owners driving mid spec Camry type cars who have the air of elitism and constantly try and preach about how awesome it is they don't have to drive their cars?
Appliances aren't real cars and the people who like them aren't traditional car people.

Are you seriously accusing someone else of having an “aire of elitism”?
Everybody likes different things about cars. I don’t see the difference between one person bragging about how much they enjoy their car driving itself and someone else bragging about how much they enjoy their car having 12 cylinders…or being a “flagship”
There is definitely a lot of healthy snobbery associated with cars, remember the classic meme between audi vs bmw and Bentleys response?
Some of this snobbery is rooted in merit, when one car is legitimately superior to another, but sometimes it’s just badge elitism. Of course most of it is silly because all cagers are inferior to the motorcyclist master race. 😎
But the most rabid type of car driver you can meet is someone in a prius with a coexist bumper sticker.

And if you didn't suggest alternatives with 6 cylinder engines, they almost certainly would have happily bought(and likely still will) 4 cylinder cars again the next time.
Either out of apathy or not seeing why a car that externally the same should cost $5-10k more just because the engine is a little different.
For every 40i BMW (B58 6 cylinder) model I see, I see at least 5 30i models (b48 4 cylinder).
Most people either don't care at all or at least don't care enough to pay more for a better engine.
Interesting marketing strategy for Porsche buyers…
Are they struggling lol? I associate that sales pitch on the radio with Local auto barn Tax salesathon, home of the if we cant get you approved, nobody else can get you approved type stuff.
