Found myself behind a 5th Gen 4Runner camping in the left lane today on my way to work. The memes about them being slow are based in reality.

Left lane exit up ahead??

If I get passed while in left lane first thing comes to mind “let me get my a** out of the way”

the 4Runner likes going between 50 and 70 mph, maybe up to 75 if it's very nice out on a smooth road lol

I drove a 4Runner across town once and I had to floor it at least twice to get up to speed. The funny thing is 4Runner drivers here are pretty speedy and aggressive, so they must be constantly flogging the engine.

I used to have a 3rd gen 4Runner. Great at nothing but I loved it!! Sold it to get a better tow vehicle.

Flogging the absolute hell out of them and never changing oil is peak midwestern 4Runner owner behavior. Don't forget the massive aftermarket rims, lights, and extra stuff that never goes off road to ensure sub 15mpg at all times

They are an excellent, consistent source of both income and screaming at rust

What a shame they were FWD junk. We had a used '82 non-convertible. The CV Joint boots used to tear all the time.

Oh that's a beauty. And that price is crazy good. But I bet this car will need plenty of work not even been driven 40k miles in 33 years, so the new owner will be paying more. Those had the biodegradable crap in them and just were a little finicky. I'd take a well driven one of these with 80k over this example without thinking twice.

I wouldn't touch an R129 unless is was 1999-2002, the final ones with the M113 V8 and the 722.5 automatic.

But yeah, she's a beauty.

BTW that Riviera, can you even begin to imagine the cowl shake? Whew.

4 Runners aren't "fast" but they're not terribly slow.

The V6 4 Runners were about 7.5 seconds 0-60, that's plenty fast enough to keep up with any traffic situation.

But no, I wouldn't be calling my truck particularly "powerful", nor be racing anyone lol.

That's if you are absolutely flooring it though, they are weak in the midrange
