Same here, our Model Y, Ioniq and Polestar all heat up quickly. In fact all of them heat the car (and precondition the battery) 30 minutes prior to departure. My Sienna on the other hand takes a bit more time to heat up in the winter

 

Toyota V6 has poor cabin heat this has been true since their first V6 engine.

 

Yes do a test, would love to know the results even though it will never be -39 here. Sometimes negative teens here but rare.

 

I'd like to do a true cold start test, no pre-heating on the Tesla and no block heater on the gas car. Problem is I don't think the Camry will start the battery won't have enough energy. And that assumes the engine oil is even in a semi-liquid state lol.

 

If you use 0W 20, than it stays fluid all the way down to -40C

Haha let's get into an oil fight . Some of the worst fighting I've seen on forums is over motor oil, specifically viscosity. You have one group that believes you should follow the recommendation from the owners manual, and another group who believes that automakers have no idea what they are talking about and are just forced into following 'ridiculous' CAFE standards. Sound familiar? Anyway, you should see the insults flying back and forth. We had an oil thread when I was part of the CivicX forum, and that thread got so personal that the moderators had to keep jumping in

BMW nearly doubles its all-electric sales in 2023

BMW Group just released its sales numbers from 2023, and it was a very good year indeed. The automaker says it hit its target of 15% share of battery-electric vehicles – and expects to sell half a million BEVs in 2024.

Last year, BMW sold 375,183 BEVs, up 74.4% year-over-year, representing 14.7% of the total volume, which is close to its 15% target. Plug-in hybrids accounted for 190,303 units sold, down 13% year-over-year, with 7.4% market share. Together, BMW sold 566,486 BEVs and PHEVs, up 31% year-over-year, for a 22.2% market share. Fourth-quarter deliveries of fully electric BMW vehicles reached 113,458 units (+55.4%).

In total, BMW reported record sales of more than 2.5 million vehicles last year. The US saw the highest sales growth at 9.4% to nearly 396,000. China sales grew the slowest at 4.2% to 824,932.

In Europe, sales of BMW and Mini vehicles totaled 942,805 units for the full year 2023 (+7.5%).

The group’s Mini also saw a boost in the Mini BEVs, with the fully-electric Cooper SE selling 45,262 units, up just 3.5%. Fully electric vehicles now make up 15.3% of total Mini sales for the full year 2023.

Top sellers for the automaker’s higher-end vehicles were the BMW iX1 and i4, with the i4 M50 as the best-selling M car. Later this year, the first fully electric touring model will make its debut as part of the BMW 5 model series.

Data from InsideEVs also points out that BMW sold 326 units of the Rolls-Royce Spectre, at 22% share. The ultra-luxury $450,000 EV comes in a handful of models, with the Cullinan the most requested worldwide, followed by the Ghost.

Back in November, with the order books filled up for the first few months of this year, Reuters reports that BMW said it wouldn’t be cutting prices, despite rivals doing so to stay competitive. We’ll see how or if things change in the coming months.

My guess is the Spectres sold so far have gone to the Uber-wealthy in London/UK, makes sense.

 

So I'm at CES and they Kia had an EV9 that you could get into. It's a very compelling package! Materials used were nice, build quality was solid, and the 2nd row captains chairs were very comfortable. I'm so used to climbing into the R1S that I over estimated how much I had to step up into the EV9. The entry height is the same as a RAV4 or other normal SUV

 

I like/love most of Kia/Hyundai/Genesis ICE models, but I haven't seen an EV yet from them that fits my eye. If I'm looking for an SUV EV, I'd buy R1S. Maybe the EQS from Mercedes. I'd really like to like these because I'm a fan of the brand in general and think they make really nice vehicles, I just don't like their EV styling yet.
