I think Hyundai needs to get the team that designs their interiors of their vehicles to design the exteriors... Love this interior. Opposite of love the exterior. Same with Santa Fe.

Not sure what you're saying - "Regen is never off by default"?

So now Tesla's don't need to protect their batteries when cold and you always get full regen regardless of temperature?

That's not at all what I'm claiming. Regen is decreased at low temps and when the battery is fully charged. Sometimes to the point of being off completely. I'm referring to this: "Controls > Dynamics > Apply Brakes When Regenerative Braking is Limited". It's an OPTION, which defaults to OFF in our Y. You seem to stating I'm incorrect.

It looks like an Ioniq 5 turned station wagon I don't hate it, but I don't dig it either. But with the good luck we have had with both our 2020 Ioniq EV and 2023 Ioniq 5, it would on my list if I needed a three row SUV

That's specific to 1-pedal driving right? If you have limited regen, the car will use the friction brakes to still allow for 1PD if that option is selected

My Tesla Model Y Police Car Is Too Cramped, Too Hard to Charge and Too Expensive to Up Fit with Equipment, It’s Nearly Unusable As A Squad Car

Why is this for me? All the PD'S use those giant Ford SUVs, that's probably the best fit and cost effective for most big departments. I'm for whatever works best. That said, I saw a fully equipped model Y squad car, unless you are 7 foot and Hulk Hogan sized, it's plenty roomy.

I agree, it's probably expensive to equip, as you have to go to a specialized third party

I could see the Y being great at city or speed trap duty where there's less arresting and more camping

I'm no expert on this issue, but Menlo Park is a tiny, extremely wealthy city that virtually has no crime. You could continually drive a MYLR from one part of the city to the next for 8 hours and probably use 50 percent of the battery. But that's not how it works, cops mostly sit in one place and are not constantly driving.

As far as having difficulty changing, I have to call BS here. That is the most charging friendly area in the Bay area. My friend works for Meta, he drives his i4 all the way from Tracy, CA which is easily 50 miles each way, he has zero issues with charging or with range.

As far as being a tight fit, I have to question that, because the Santa Clara Sheriff's department uses Chevy Malibu's for their Valley Transit Authority patrol's, that's a tiny car and fully equipped SC deputies seem fine driving them. MY is way roomier.

I understand big cities like San Jose where I live having issues with the costs of equipping and driving longer distances with a model Y, but overall I detect extreme bias in that article, like did they interview one officer who's biased against EV'S, or did they talk to multiple officers? Lots of questions

Haha I think he's just looking for other points of views. I think the article is mostly BS because small, wealthy cities like Menlo Park can easily afford to use Model Y's, and range and roominess is not an issue unless they're cops constantly patrol donut shops 😂

That article is the usual rage click stuff bit tends to post, long on innuendo short on substance.

As for cost everything I've read says EVs save police departments loads of money. Charging is a non issue since the range is way more than the average a cruiser is driven per day. And an EV is far far more efficient especially since cruisers tend to sit idling most of the time. EV is far better here.

And I believe they would also work in big cities as police departments divide their units into divisions, a fully charged Model Y would be able sustain a chase for about two hours or more at high speeds, and unless you are in SoCal, they don't last that long, with multiple agencies taking over and chases going through multiple cities. In most cases the California highway patrol ends up being the lead agency in chases as most longer ones end up on the freeway.

But this is ultimately just my opinion as I don't live day to day in my Tesla as an officer
