Completely the opposite. Friction brakes are used more when the battery is fully charged (thus regen is deliberately reduced to protect the battery) and exactly the same thing in cold temps - regen is reduced and friction brakes are engaged more to protect the cold battery..
This is the default behavior - you don't enable it. It just happens.
You can change the regen setting to be less manually if you choose to do so, however regen is automatically less in the conditions I described above to protect the battery.

So now Tesla's don't need to protect their batteries when cold and you always get full regen regardless of temperature?

I don't hate it, but I don't dig it either. But with the good luck we have had with both our 2020 Ioniq EV and 2023 Ioniq 5, it would on my list if I needed a three row SUV
That's not at all what I'm claiming. Regen is decreased at low temps and when the battery is fully charged. Sometimes to the point of being off completely. I'm referring to this: "Controls > Dynamics > Apply Brakes When Regenerative Braking is Limited". It's an OPTION, which defaults to OFF in our Y. You seem to stating I'm incorrect.

All the PD'S use those giant Ford SUVs, that's probably the best fit and cost effective for most big departments. I'm for whatever works best. That said, I saw a fully equipped model Y squad car, unless you are 7 foot and Hulk Hogan sized, it's plenty roomy. I agree, it's probably expensive to equip, as you have to go to a specialized third party

As far as having difficulty changing, I have to call BS here. That is the most charging friendly area in the Bay area. My friend works for Meta, he drives his i4 all the way from Tracy, CA which is easily 50 miles each way, he has zero issues with charging or with range.
As far as being a tight fit, I have to question that, because the Santa Clara Sheriff's department uses Chevy Malibu's for their Valley Transit Authority patrol's, that's a tiny car and fully equipped SC deputies seem fine driving them. MY is way roomier.
I understand big cities like San Jose where I live having issues with the costs of equipping and driving longer distances with a model Y, but overall I detect extreme bias in that article, like did they interview one officer who's biased against EV'S, or did they talk to multiple officers? Lots of questions
