Front camera basically gives the car a better view of the front, and I imagine would be able to pickup things like potholes better, as we as objects in front of it. It should also give a true 360 view. I didn't do any front parking, but I don't think it would activate the camera on the screen, it would just give a more accurate graphics representation. So to answer your question, the camera never automatically activated. You can turn them on manually
So I saw one on the freeway the other day, about three lanes away and 100ft ahead of me... My wife wasn't wrong. Lol. This thing doesn't look as good as I thought when we were in the mall. It was during the day and tail light were off. It looked very much like a bigger Prius or one of those Kias.

So it looks like whatever Tesla was doing has worked...almost no 2025 Model Y's in inventory. Can't believe they moved all those units so quickly......now let's see how the 2026 Y does
