Some are speculating that the new Y has brake by wire based on the fact that the pedal no longer moves when using FSD. Think it was Lars Moravy that talked about an extra chamber, or some other feature in the master cylinder that allows this. Don't think it is actually brake by wire.

 

Personally I don’t consider the Model Y an SUV, it’s a tall hatchback car. If I were considering an SUV I wouldn’t even think to consider a Y.

 

According to several auto publications, the Model Y is considered a compact crossover SUV, same as a RAV4, Honda CR-V etc. Whatever it is, it's roomier than Sedans like the Model 3, Camry etc.

well your interest lies in big 3 row suvs. the model y though competes very favorably in space to most suv's.

even my ioniq 5 which is considered a cuv, shocks people with the space it has. its wheelbase is bigger than the palisade

 

We've been through this a lot, my interests are not only what I myself would purchase. I also don't consider the Ioniq 5 an SUV/CUV. To me these things feel more like modern VW Rabbits than they do an SUV.

 

I have a hard time believing that the Model Y is not a crossover.

interesting. i'd say anything with a rear hatch door is a crossover/suv/cuv. there's trucks, sedans (dying), coupes (rare), and crossover/suv/cuv's (everywhere).

 

Is a Tesla Model S a crossover? Audi A7? Mercedes EQS Sedan? All of those have hatches. One feature isn't enough to categorize it that way. To me its a feel thing.

The RX and the MY are about the same size. Perhaps the lowered floor and the perception is that it is a very tall hatch back?

I would agree the Mach E doesn’t look like a crossover. But the size is the same as the Y.

 

Model S and A7 styling both have held up VERY well.

 

fair enough. I'll qualify by not a fastback hatch like those which are trying to do it all but don't really as cargo space isn't tall.
