Model Y Refresh
thanks!
rwd long range. we only have long range here… perhaps because of the country size, ha. i don’t know what nmc is but i believe it’s not lfp and it’s the same battery as the dual motor.
also in europe i believe the rwd has some cost cutting like slightly down-spec audio system, but in the u.s., they use the same everything in the rwd and awd models. since i like sound i made sure of that, ha.

For the heat and glass roof: As a fellow Floridian, I use the climate "keep" feature 99.9% of the time when I park anywhere other than in my garage. The 0.1% is the time when I'm parking the car for more than 90 minutes.
If you don't know what I mean, with the car in Park, tap one of the temperature readings on the screen that shows you what your AC is set on. That shows you how your vents are positioned, lets you heat/cool your seats, enter "Dog Mode" etc. Up towards the top, you'll see "Keep". That'll keep the cabin at that temp while the car is parked. In the grocery store for 30 mins? Come back to a cool car. This has just become my habit - right before I get out of the car I activate the "Keep" mode.
I started using this because when I first got my MYP the area I frequent the most had pretty spotty cell coverage so I couldn't get a reliable connection from the app and the car to cool the car down 5 minutes before I'd walk out of the grocery store (for example). I now use it for almost everything; year round. I work out Mon-Fri mornings for about 75 minutes and use "Keep" every single time. I've noticed I lose about 1% battery in that time period which is clearly inconsequential. The app will notify you at the 1 hour mark and say "climate has been left on for an extended period of time"
Obviously "Keep" won't help you as you're actively driving the car and the sun is beating on the glass, but I've found that starting with a cool car is the key. The AC in the Tesla is really good and gets very cold. On a side note, the "auto" AC fan setting in the Tesla is the best auto mode for air of any car I've ever had. I leave mine set to auto and just adjust the temp.
Hope those tips help. My in-laws got a Juniper about 3 months ago and there was something funky about the doors locking or unlocking upon walk up and walk away. I can't remember the issue but it is a default setting within the main menu of the car and we changed it and they were happy with the change. You can also have it stay unlocked at home which I prefer (you have to tell it where home is).
thanks for the tips! keep mode sounds great. as for heat coming in from above while driving, yes, that’s what i noticed when driving the car home. i’ve not driven the car since but have installed the shade. will give it a try tomorrow and over the weekend.
I have to say, we have come a long way from when I first joined CL back in 2019. I owned an IS350 Sport, and was about to transition into either a newer Model or a GSF. Since then I've owned 5 EV'S. And Bitkahuna now own three... now owns a Model Y and sold his LC500. Wow 🙂.
Now all that's left is to get Jill into a Hyundai and AJT into an EV, and that would only mean hell just froze over 🤣

took the y out last night. gf won’t let me do fsd with her in it yet so actually had to drive.
the ‘standard’ steering setting is still quite ‘quick’ and the car has more body roll than i remembered. i changed steering to ‘light’ and like that better.
coming home it was dark out, and the matrix headlights are awesome.
even for just the rwd version the car is plenty quick. fun fun. and very quiet.

I'm glad you are enjoying your Y, hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I enjoy my Model 3 👍 I honestly don't have any desire for any other car. It satisfies all my needs as a comfortable economical sporty daily driver.
Look forward to hearing more feedback from you on the Y as you live with it longer

so a question... the app seems to turn the 'sentry mode' on even if i turn it off, and it seems like that does actually consume battery while the car sits there?
i also have to say tesla doesn't seem to provide much info on setting things up... of course there's thousands of settings, lol.
also, i added gf as a driver, but when i go to manage drivers on the app is only shows her, not me? is that because it only means manage non-owners of the car?
