Most likely yes. A good, clean engine should have acceptable NOx levels without EGR, but probably higher than that of one with a functioning EGR system.

I thought the EGR's purpose was not to cool down combustion temperatures, as it is only returning hot exhaust fumes, but to improve gas mileage by burning some fumes that can still be combusted.
The theory is that getting rid of the EGR would increase power becuase you have less heat..

No. It's to cool down combustion temperatures. As hot as exhaust gasses are, combustion temperatures are much hotter. Exhaust gasses are inert, so nothing the EGR valve adds to the intake will be burned. Removing EGR can increase power because you can add more air or more fuel into the engine by removing the inert gasses of the EGR system. There may be other reasons that I am unaware of, but any gains just from removing the EGR system are minute at best. Also, the EGR system helps to prevent detonation because it lowers the combustion temperatures. In closing, it's best to keep it, but it can be removed with little ill effect if needed.
Whaaaaat !!!
Do you really want HOT FUMY air going back into your engine ??
Cos that's what happens with the EGR , it recycles the internal air back into the intake so that it doesn't go to free air .
Putting it into a catch bottle removes it from your intake and your car/bike will go better , you notice it more on a bike but the same applies to ANY engine .

Have you confused PCV with EGR? I've never heard of someone running their EGR system through a catch can.
