Thought you would get a kick out of this. This is "Stupids Corner" in WV, been around this corner MANY times. Its on the road down to the bottom of the Gorge under the NRG Bridge. My favorite is the guy on the motorcycle that just falls over lol. This is all from the last month, guy who lives there has a camera set up.
West Virginia has numerous tight hairpins like that.....U.S. 50 on Laurel Mountain, U.S. 33 and 250 in a number of places, etc..... but, yes, that is probably the first one I've seen with that sharp an angular drop-off going through the turn.
I see a number of big 3-row SUVS like Escalades, Expeditions, Yukons, etc....running around this area with one or two people in them at most. I think (and this gets back to what some Defensive-Driving-schools used to teach) that some folks buy these gargantuans simply because they want to "feel" safe. These Driving-Instructors used to teach (and common lore generally was) that, the more metal you have around you, the potentially safer you are in an accident. .
They're also status symbols, that's another reason people pay the piper for these. I see 30 year old women driving Escalade Vs alone even the ESV ones, stuff like that alllllllll the time. You could live out of our regular length, the ESV could basically be an apartment lol....
Sometimes I just hate people. Because of that I always strategically park my car because so many people are idiots. I know not the norm but if I did that I would have left a note.
Even that doesn't reliably help, unless you happen to find that rare spot with curbs on both sides. I can't tell you how many times I've parked deep in the back of the lot, 10+ spaces away from the nearest car. Almost without fail when I come back out there's a shitbox right next to me. I even watched it happen once. Got back in the car, left solid strips into the next aisle. They still were utterly oblivious.
The hairpin isn't unusual, the dropoff is whats unusual. If you stand there its like a 6 foot dropoff. People will actually roll their cars over!
A lot of newer riders have trouble handling tight hairpins like these on motorcycles. The worst thing to do is slow down excessively and come to a stop, with the camber in the road the rider then can't reach the pavement and drops the bike. Especially troublesome for shorter riders on heavy bikes. I've taught a number of beginners on how to take these with ease - gotta keep the throttle open while slowing the bike with the rear brake, and push the bike into the turn while counterleaning with your body.

The Escalade and even the Yukon/Tahoe are status symbols, not a MDX or TX or Highlander which is the point I was trying to make. Those are utility purchases. A single person might buy an Escalade or Yukon, that persons not buying a TX lol.

I have had that happen way too much with my LSs but not as often with my other cars for some bizarre reason.
If I'm in a nice car and there are other nice cars also hiding at the back of the lot I will go near them but not next to, I've also had others do the same and that I don't mind at all. Generally speaking the guy with an M5/TTRS/S-class, etc will not mess with your car

I might just start parking next to them for herd immunity and hope they don't mind. Protect at least one side of both cars at least <sigh>.
Last weekend there was an AMG GT-S at the back of the lot. So I parked opposite and one spot over from him, so either of us could pull straight out through the spot adjacent to the other.
Of course came out to find a rusty CR-V next to my car and an Altima next to the GT.

That's quite literally my mentality. Can't get hit on the side the other nice car is on, hopefully.
I don't understand why people park close like that. When I'm in my shitboxes I stay well away from anything nice to not cause them anxiety since I know they will not assume a MK4 TDI with a 6 inch pipe is a respectful car person
a small crossover is superior. Especially the super ride height which makes it easier to get in and out and much easier on the knees. Nobody missed the Town Car. Lincoln tried to bring it back as a fwd car but was canceled or that was the continental
No. Lincoln did not try to bring back the Town Car as a FWD....that was the MKS, and later, the FWD Continental. There was never a FWD Town Car.
I agree that a crossover, even a small one, has easier entry/exit for many seniors (one reason why I drive one myself). But many seniors have been conditioned to believe that, the larger and more structure the vehicle has around you, the safer you potentially are. That's true from a purely physics point of view and nothing else....but there are many other factors that complicate the issue. Larger does not always necessarily mean safer.
