Actually there sort of was. For a few years they sold the MKT, based on the Ford Edge, as a direct replacement for the Towncar. Hence the T. They were briefly very popular as stretch limos, and literally said “Town Car” on the front doors.

FYI, the MKT was based on the Flex platform, not the Edge. The somewhat smaller MKX (shown below) was based on the Edge.

Is this the Town Car logo on the door you are talking about? ...actually, it is a little forward of the door.

As I recall, that is the Lincoln logo itself, not necessarily a TC badge.


You DO, however, I'll admit, bring up an interesting point about a possible connection between the
"T" on the MKT designation and a Town Car theme. I had not considered that.

Picked up my sisters D3 4.2 for a service, it's been doing well and has had no new issues come up. I need to do a few small things still like a new coolant tank but is been very good

You’re right. Forgot about that. The rest holds, but it was in fact based on the Flex.

OK...good eye. I didn't notice that at first.

I test drove an MKT, BTW.....and wasn't impressed. Neither was I particularly impressed with the MKS sedan. Neither one of them could equal the classic Town Car sedan's ride-comfort, which, IMO, was not surprising considering their larger wheels and lower-profile tires. The FWD/AWD Continental sedan, which came out a few years later, IMO, was a FAR better product inside and out. I considered buying one before I got my Lacrosse some years ago.

i agree with that. but i wasn't talking about the tz of 3 row vehicles at all.

I think there is a market for an ES with low range because people buy vehicles like that just to commute in. I think there is a much smaller market for a big 3 row TZ that only appeals to people commuting or driving around town.
i know people with navigators, escalades, etc., that NEVER take trips. they fly.
and i also know people with sedans that take lots of trips and have zero interest or need for a 3 row vehicle.

there's many variations of consumers.

You just mentioned two SUVs that are also status symbol cars. Even a Denali or the like is for some people that just like big truckish SUVs. Those buyers aren’t likely to look at a TX, MDX or something similar. Does it happen, yes I’m sure but I bet not that often.

Really?! because you fought be tooth and nail about that in the TZ thread,

Of course, but there are is also a "typical consumer" for a vehicle and a style of vehicle that carmakers design vehicles to appeal to. Designing a vehicle that appeals to the fringe cases and not the typical consumer makes it a poor offering. My issue with the TZ is it doesn't offer as good a product to its typical consumer as it easily could have and I think it will ultimately not be successful for that reason.

The typical consumer for a sedan is totally different than a 3 row crossover so the offering having lower range isn't as big an issue is my point.

I'd go look at another R129 to buy before a TX.....

I'm one of those that likes big trucks and SUVs, and I'm alone in it when I drive 99% of the time. I like having all that room. Part of the appeal. LX is like that up front (big, spacious) but the cargo hold ain't big like the Yukon's lol.

They fully know housewives and business men/women will drive these alone.

Just like they know lots actually WILL be used for all the utility with the kids and their sports, dogs, hauling stuff, towing boats effortlessly, etc.

You dont have kids and a dog to haul around lol. If I didn't no way I would buy a TX lol.

Thats my point, people like you buy Tahoes and Yukons and Escalades...they don't buy 3 row crossovers lol. If you were going to buy a crossover you'd buy something like an RX before you'd buy a TX. Thinking about it, I don't know anybody that has a 3 row crossover that doesn't have a family. Not one person. I do know a couple of elderly couples that have minivans...I also know people who drive Yukons and Escalades with no family...and even something like a GLS or X7 I could see wanting something big and prestigious to drive people around playing golf...I would drive an X7 or GLS myself...but the 3 row crossover "fake minivan" really is a family phenomenon, if I was going to buy a Lexus big vehicle to drive myself I would get an LX.

The range-topping TX 550h+ Luxury Plug-in Hybrid AWD is the most expensive trim, starting at an MSRP of $81,760.


I can't believe people would spend that on a vehicle like that. The Yukon was I think $82xxx in 2022 (pretty sure). Utility wise I'm not missing anything, it's hugggge inside, you can tow with it for 20 years, yes the recall sucks bad-- but engine vs engine let's be real. Do we want hybrid or basically a detuned Vette V8 engine when you start having fun with the gas? Play around with the gas in the GMC and it drops into a seriouslllly aggressive shift pattern. The sounds it make are friggin' intoxicating.

Everyone else free to to buy what they want, of course, and I'm glad all the choices can mostly please everyone. TX I'm not a fan of. I like the GXs but they need the V8 back, just like the LX. New LX I'd choose a loaded Denali with Supercruise over it, let alone a freakin' Escalade which is just that much nicer than the GMC.

Totally different vehicle than a Yukon. A loaded TX550h+ is $87,000 but that is a PHEV and appeals to a totally different buyer than a Yukon. We would buy that vehicle for the same price over a Yukon any day.

Most TXs are TX350s and they are priced $65-70k. TX500hs most are premiums that are about $74k, TX500h Luxury models are like $78k but they are impossible to find, as is the TX550h+. Every 500h luxury or 550h+ that shows up on a lot gets immediately snapped up.

We are just 3 row crossover buyers, not BOF SUV buyers. If I were buying one for me to drive every day I would buy an X7 50i, a GLS580 or a LWB Range Rover.
