No, I did not disconnect the battery on this occasion. However, I did disconnect it on a previous attempt to correct the problem without going through removal. Needless to say, just disconnecting the battery, turning on the lights and waiting for 15 minutes (as was suggested by another person) did not work.
I replaced my navi screen with a used one from an eBay salvage yard. My original was garbage and not repairable. the replacement acted a little strange at first but it has been flawless for over a year.
BTW, the side screws were loose on the replacement too.
When the screws become too loose, the door will jump the track and bind. This is common on all SC430s.
Another common problem is the valve cover bolts become loose over time, if anyone reading this has never checked those bolts you are in for an oil leak. All you need to do is give them a half to full turn and you will be good to go.
I think it happens when the gasket shrinks a little
After learning much more about these, I would first pull the unit and check all of the screws on the sides of the unit and make sure the door is still in the track.
The door off the track and loose screws are the most common problem...
I ended up replacing the unit because it had multiple issues, bad screen, broken screen frame and it would not close the door or tilt the screen.
I've read through this entire thread looking for how to re-align the door on the track and tighten the screws, as my, of course, 02, is having the same issue. I've been doing a good amount of DIY work for small issues (thanks to this forum) with much success and would love to learn as much about how this car operates internally and externally as possible. How do you determine if it is off-track, and which screws are you talking about being "loose"? I currently have the display out and ready to be worked on in my garage, just looking for some guidance. I assume it isn't the 2 phillips/10mm screws, as that would have no effect on the door track.
I had my navigation unit door repaired by a company in CA called HiTechServ. I had to ship them the unit. It took about 2 weeks for them to fix and send it back to me (cost was about $375). It had a bad door control motor.
My radio cover door also stopped working and I had that replaced with one I found on eBay. Both are common problem areas on the SC430.

Thanks again!
i don't have any specific pics to show you but as I said before it is the screws on the sides. There are about seven on each side and all the same. If you move the door you will see the track on the sides. The track is an intended area on the sides and about a 1/4 inch wide.
if the door moves freely then you are fine...it will have resistance from the electric motor but moving the open and closed is fine and you will not damage anything.
Hi my 02 Nav Door and tilt stopped working. The Navigation does work. It’s been recommended I replace p/n 55405-24080, but its discontinued. Can anyone help? Thanks
