Default 2002 SC430 Navigation Door

Can anyone help? My navigation door quit working, tilt function also, and it's stuck open. The Nav unit works fine. Dealer is telling me thousands to replace it - but I suspect it's like the Mercedes dealer where my SL was missing a $10 clip - and they wanted to replace the dashboard...
I'm hoping it can be repaired.

It makes a little "ping" sound then I turn the car off, but I don't hear the door motor.
Any help is appreciated!

Check all the fuses first. It sounds like the two failures may have a common root cause. (It seems like there are 3 or 4 fuses related to the NAV.)

BTW, welcome to the forum.

After eliminating the potential of fuse issues then its on to other problem areas. Many times it's just comes off its track...other times it could be one of the motors. Either way it means getting into the guts of the center console ...are you up for some DIY work and diagnostics?

Thank you both for the welcome. I did check the fuse, from the kick panel in the passenger side, a 5 amp fuse labeled "TV". I thought that was the only one. The DIY is a little frightening but I'll give it a try. It's a Silver Belle, with the different wood, and I was worried that would complicate matters if I had to replace the unit.
Thanks again

There are more than just the one fuse AzReporter. Don't stop at just the first one. (I think that VVTiBob wrote in a past thread where the various NAV fuses are located if you'll do a search.)

Just had the same thing happen on our '02 but my dealer was a bit more (ahem) realistic about the repair costs. They took the car in (gave us a service loaner so we could go grab lunch and relax away from the dealership) and made very minor "adjustments and calibrations" and called within an hour that it was back working right again. When I pressed for more information on the fix he said that basically the door had come off it's tracks ever so slightly and just needed to be realigned. Our cost for this royal treatment...NOTHING! Free of charge! My advice...find another dealer!

30 days or 30 posts ....whichever comes first... This is in place to prevent endless spam from ending up in the forums.

You can always put the picture up on a site for sharing pictures (plenty of free ones around), then just put the link into a post here for us to click on. Not ideal, but a workaround.

+1. Been doing it that way for years on other sites. Flickr makes it easy.

I've got the same problem on a 2004 sc430. Nav door stopped working, all buttons not functioning. Did you fix problem? any suggestions?

Haven't had any success yet - it started working again and then quit?
I heard it might be the fuses, and there are two panels inside the car on either side of the footwell.
I'm going to try both of those.
Sorry for the late reply, hadn't checked board
