Its quite easy to add a start button but generally it would be you put the key in the ignition for position I and II and then the third to crank would be on the button. To do that would be pretty simple. To lose the key completely would be a lot more work though.
You would not only have the make the necessary hardware changed such as adding the push button which would be the easy part, the hard part would be getting the computer to read and understand the code it needs to start via wireless as currently it reads it from the key

Unless I'm wrong, the emergency key (in the plastic holder) does not have any electronics. The electronics are in the plastic card holding the "dumb" key.
So... if you had the plastic card with the electronics in your pocket, that takes care of the electronics.
The mechanical aspect of physically unlocking the steering wheel would be the difficult part if you just wanted to push a start button and get going.
Even remote starting with LuxLink requires a physical key to unlock the steering wheel.
You bring up a good point, however, and I can only go off of this one test, on my GX I have a spare key that has never been programmed, just cut. It turns the lock cylinder but will not turn the motor over though it will crank all day long with the blinking security light on. It will not start the GX at all even with a good programmed key right above the key in the ignition. So again, there is something more at play here preventing the GX from starting. Put in the programmed key and vroom on the first spin of the starter.

I'm not talking about a spare key that has the electronics inside the head. I'm talking about the emergency key that Lexus supplied that fits inside a plastic credit card mount the size of a credit card, but about three times as thick. The key itself is just a cut piece of metal. It differs from the spare key as all the electronics are in the credit card sized holder.
That holder allows a non-electronic key to be used in the ignition.
There is a picture of it here when you scroll down to the second picture:

I'm not sure what year's SC430s had this offered. It came with my '08.
No need to clarify, I know exactly what you were saying. I just do not have a credit card key for my SC so I could only rely on the experiment above which would be the same as bypassing the ignition with a push button hoping the electronics are near by would be registered. Right?
Lexus has changed the key a few times in all of their cars. An 01 IS for example can only be opened with the credit card key but an 02 IS can be started with it. So perhaps if the SC has the same setup (easy to test) then the ignition programming can be had via remotely. Since the OP has an 02 the key is not the same as an 08. Changed in 06 I believe. What changed I am not sure.
Perhaps someone here can test out their 02-05 with the cc key to see what works and what does not.
Put the credit card key in the ignition and move the electronics around to check for distance.
