yes i think it looks more like a mid cycle refresh than an outright new model. But a poorly executed one.
Im not really blown away with the interior either. I dislike that center LCD screen. It looks a bit out of place and poorly implemented. When it drops off, the passenger side just looks empty and sort of an afterthought.
The old one seems better integrated
that’s the problem I have with these damn touch screens. They need to be close enough to the driver and it makes it a nightmare to implement in the dash and to make it look elegant.
I hate how the current 4th gen with the screen on top of the dash look but I’m not too thrilled on the new 5th gen interior dash either. I want the screen to be further and buried in the dash(like the GS and the pre-touchscreen LS). I don’t have problem with the joystick or the track pad. Just give me an in dash non-touch screen and CarPlay.
That is just my subjective opinion and preference and obviously touch screens are coming back and they’re in almost every new vehicle.
Also, why does the screen have to be so massive?

I have to stretch a bit to reach the touchscreen in the current model, so my impression is that this new screen will be easier to reach. As to the size, that just seems to be the trend these days. I imagine that is driven by the competition as much as anything else. I would probably want to see it in action before I can formulate a decent impression.
....

To show a nice big map view. I love the display in my 2018 -- so great with the map, and also great with the backup camera. If Gen 5 has it integrated into the dash, that's fine, but I like the Gen 4 size and don't admire the smaller ones on the GS and other makes.
^one of my good friends work as a service advisor for my local dealership and he says out of all the Lexus(s) he encountered, its always the first year that has the most problems. 2016 RX' and 17's being the worst. Even so, my 2017 (besides the squeaks) have been flawless mechanically. Also he said its usually after the mid cycle refresh that they fix "identified" issues that aren't covered by TSB/recalls/etc.

It might be all true but life is too short.
the way I see it, Lexus issues is more of an annoyance rather than something that would leave you stranded in the middle of the highway.
absolutely, pretty sure thats why they have such high customer retention. Hell im one of their biggest fanboys as i lusted over SC300, IS300's, SC430 during my youth but it seems like Lexus is trying to move away from their traditional demographic and target even younger buyers.
Hence all this tech, all these giant screens, and corporate cost cutting is blatantly apparent.
My $151,000 canadian (including local taxes) LC doesnt even come with 360 camera, or 16 way adjustable seats... on a grand tourer....
OK great, that's very new. I drove a new GS a year ago and the display was 1/2 the size of an RX 11.3 inch display.
I don’t know what kind of GS you drove but all the GS in the states are standard 12” screen since 2013. It’s the first Lexus to receive this screen.
GS>>RX.
you’re right but that’s poor execution of what looks like a nice package. I’m disappointed about performance though. My hybrid wrangler Rubicon does 0-60 in 5.5 sec
