Bought my wife a 2025 RX 350h P+ and am mostly happy with it. One gripe I have is the regular headlights. They both cast a weird shadow; and Im wondering if this is normal. I'm referring to the L shaped shadow at the top of the beam.
Prevents blinding oncoming traffic: Lexus vehicles, like other manufacturers, follow regulations that require headlights to have an asymmetrical beam pattern. The driver's side headlight is intentionally aimed slightly lower and has a darker area to prevent glare from blinding other motorists.
Meets photometric standards: The design ensures the vehicle meets the strict lighting standards set by regulatory bodies, such as the Department of Transportation (DOT) in the United States.
Really can't tell much from your picture, but my RX also has a different pattern on the driver's side that doesn't go down the street as far and has a small shadow. I think what you're seeing is the normal light pattern designed not to blind oncoming traffic. Here is a picture from a Toyota forum. You can see it better here. Different vehicle, same idea:
Ignore the above posts referring to a standard DOT cutoff, your issue appears to be some kind of debris attached to the cutoff shield or on top of the lens. Can you take a photo of the lens itself or do you see anything in there similar to that shape? A photo might be difficult but you might be able to see something if you get in there close with an inspection light. It may be very small because its projected into a larger size onto the pavement.
Can you take a photo of the projection, one with the left headlamp covered with a towel and the other with the right head lamp covered with a towel? That would help determine which housing the issue stems from.
This is a resurrected old issue. My '23 has it. It's annoying only if you stare at it. Its purpose has been debated. I've seen no official response from Lexus.
I took a good look at the headlights. Couldn't see any anomalies in the lens. I decided, when it's out of warranty I'm changing them out for some LEDs.
