Did I destroy my headlights?
i used goo gone on my headlight beause i had some sticky stuff on there and now my headlight is hazey and one part even turned white. i suppose goo off was too strong and stripped the coating off the headlight. is there a fix to this or am i screwed?
i heard that you can buff it out but what product should i use? should i do it by hand or machine? im so **** at myself right now, i can hardly think of anything else ! ! !
first, don't panic.
second, go get some 2000 grit sand paper and sand the whole headlight until you can't see through it anymore.
third, put some meguir's plastx on it and rub that compound into the headlight all over the headlight... be generous and keep rubbing it into it.
fourth, stand back and thank CL for saving your behind with your headlights.

Here's what you do...
Go to Walmart....buy 2000 grit wet sand paper and 3M Rubbing Compound. I like 3M but I guess any brand of Rubbing Compound will do.
Wet the 2000 grit and lightly sand your headlights.....then rinse off the white residue.....with a clean terry cloth....and a dime size amount of Rubbing Compound.....rub like no tomorrow (put alot of pressure and elbow grease in this)....if still not clear....start from the beginnig again.

thanks, i will try this soon. but does it have to be 2000 grit. can i use 2500? the reason why i ask is, i dont want to cause any scratches that will not go away. also, i see two suggestions: wet or dry? i personall like it wet

When i sanded with my 1500 Grit, i dipped it in water, and then sanded gently to remove the yellowy film, then repeated a few times till the headlight was glazed over.
Pulled out the Makita Drill attached the buffer pad to it, put on some mothers plastic polish, dabbed the headlight with the buffer pad, till it was entirely covered, and started to buff the crap out of it, end result? Take a look. (BTW that wetness was from inside, before we baked it)

that reminds me: will this make the headlight look new again with no scratches from the sand paper?

Good luck with the cleaning and yes if you use 2000 or greater it will not show the scratches. Remember im using 1500 and i dont have any scratches so your safe. Plus to show pictures you would have to upload the photos on another website such as www.photobucket.com for example, and from there copy and paste image location here under the insert image option.
