I went to the dealer today for the 5000 maintenance on my 2012 RX and asked to get the following customization on top of the free maintenance:
I'd like to be able to open the trunk using my hand by pressing the button on the trunk latch (not on the remote) and for it to open via the electric motor.
They told me it was not possible but I thought I read somewhere on this forum that it was possible in the customization list pdf. I did not have the list with me unfortunately, nor did I keep that pdf (I can't find it now .
If it is possible can someone let me know? I'd like a code or paragraph number that I could show the dealer so that they can't just brush me off.
Thank you (other than that trunk option, I love the RX350)
I really appreciate this thread because I was thinking Lexus was taking a cheap way out by only allowing the lift-gate to close electrically. Once I read this thread, I tried the open button on the dash and on the key fob and saw it does actually open electrically. I swallowed hard and mentally apologized to Lexus and made a note to have the "power open" activated at my 5000 mile service. Thanks again for the information.
I considered having this option turned on when I had my tires swapped but decided against it. I can cause the gate to open itself with the FOB or the dash button. This way, if I'm in a hurry I don't have to wait for the hatch to open enough to put something in the back.

John, I don't know if the hatch button, after activation, will work the same way as the power trunk lid on the LS, but pressing the button 2ce stops the power mode and returns the lid to manual operation. That way you can either open (or close) the trunk using the power mode (press button once) or manual mode (press button 2ce). The lid always returns to power mode automatically next time you open the trunk.
That's how it works. Push it twice and it goes back to manual mode if you want to open it faster. I just wait it out.
Wow, I've had my RX 450h with the power button setting changed for 1.5 yrs now and I didn't know that this was how you got it into manual mode. Thanks for the info.
