Default Maint Reqd light

I searched the forum and came up with various ways to turn off this warning light but so far none have worked. I've set it on both odometer and trip one & held the button for way more than 10 sec's. I made sure that the windows were up and the sunroof was closed but still no luck. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Thanx. It's a 2004 RX330

From my 04 RX330 owners manual:

1. Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position with the odometer reading shown.

2. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position while holding down the “ODO/TRIP” button.

Hold down the button for at least 5 seconds. The odometer indicates “000000” and the light goes off.

Make sure before you start that odometer is set to total miles and not to trip mileage.

jfelbab, what page did you find those instructions on? I searched that 500+/- page novel for a long time but must have missed it. I guess the key word [for me] is "while" - I think I pushed the button after turning the key. I did manage to reset trip "A" but the light is still on. If the odometer says 000000 after resetting, I presume it changes back to the actual mileage shortly afterwards...... I don't imagine you can reset the odometer so easily - or is that why there were so few miles on it? [kidding] Thanks for the info.

I have not seen the odo going back to all zeros. What's up with that?

The re-set has to be under maintenance section. I will check shortly.

Default I just found the "secret" yeaterday.

There is an error in the instruction manual. What it doesn't tell you is that after turning the key to the lock (off) position, you must remove the key then re-insert it before turning it back on. Also remember to hold down the odometer reset button while turning the key switch back on. My biggest complaint about Lexus are the inadequacies of the owner's manual.

Here is the text.

Section 1-3 Instruments and Controls - Gauges, meters and service reminder indicators.

The subsection begins on page 87 and is titled "Service reminder indicators and warning buzzers".

On the reset procedure, here it is verbatim:

On page 93 "(g) Engine Oil Replacement Reminder Light (for vehicles sold in the USA)

This light reminds you when to replace the engine oil.
This light will come on when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position and will go off after about a few seconds.

When you drive for about 8000 km (5000 miles) after the engine oil replacement, this light illuminates for about 3 seconds and then flashes for about 12 seconds with the ignition key turned to the “ON” position. If you continue driving without replacing the engine oil, and if the distance driven exceeds 12000 km (7500 miles), the light will come on after the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position. The light will remain on thereafter.

If the light is flashing, we recommend that you replace the engine oil at an early opportunity depending on the driving and road conditions. If the light comes on, replace it as soon as possible.

The system must be reset after the engine oil replacement.
Reset the system by the following procedure:

1. Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position with the odometer reading shown. (For details, see “Odometer and trip meter” on page 73.)

2. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position while holding down the “ODO/TRIP” button.

Hold down the button for at least 5 seconds. The odometer indicates “000000” and the light goes off.

If the system fails to reset, the light will continue flashing.
