Default Painted Front Bumper

Well last Monday, the 30th, I took my grandfathers bumper into my Autobody class at school to get it painted. He bought it in 2000 and it looks like the lady before him just hit something minor and the paint that she had it painted with was peeling like crazy and ruining the look of the car... So i took it in and and repainted the whole thing. And yes i drove the car around without a bumper. Got some weird looks going down the road for sure, but better cooling! haha. I will put a picture of that as well. Overall it went well. I have before, during and after pics below. So enjoy.

Finished!! Bought a pint of the UCAA6 Metallic paint for the lower half and ended up still having half of the pint left...Matched the rest of the car perfect. Had to call the dealer for the lower half paint code (UCAA6).

Very, very nice! I think most of us could benefit from a class like that, but most of us never had the opportunity. Great job!!

I have always heard about Lexus being more expensive to paint as they use special treatment (either process or paint). Can you confirm or refute it.

Thanks

Salim

Not aware of aything special in the paint or process - mostly 2 stage (clearcoat) but that's all. In the 70's and early 80's German cars used "Glasso" paint which was difficult to get hold of but the paint manufacturers eventually came out with similar formulas.

Well we got the paint from the place where we get all the paint from, to paint Mercedes, and all the expensive cars as well as regular everyday cars, and a pint of the UCAA6 was $47.50. There was no special process in prepping the car for paint, nor in the painting process. In the end, there was about 1/3-1/2 left in the can.

My RX300 is more expensive to paint because it has a 3-stage paint job (base coat, top coat, and clearcoat). But this crystal white color is also used on Toyotas. I believe you should be using a flexibility additive to the cladding (bottom) paint since it is being applied to plastic. But this is the base with other brand cars too.

Looks great! Wow those pics sure make you wonder how much air flow gets to the tranny cooler.

That's why I took my reservoir out. I may not have wiper fluid, but I'll live without it if it will help my tranny.

i know, i was sooo amazed at how little air gets to it with the bumper on, just through that little slit in the bumper... The car probably loved getting more air!
