Default Surprised by the Nav system

I've avoided getting a data plan for my phone for decades. Finally ran out of other toys to give myself for my birthday so got one last week. Nothing changed until yesterday. Was in the parking lot of the ice cream place. Wife and dog and I are sitting in the car listening to tunes from my phone on the car stereo when up pops a message that I have email. Cool I think and select read it to me--it did. Was a surprise. My Lincoln reads texts to me, but never had an email read before. I know you younger folks expect this sort of electronics, but at 72, I'm really old school. I still have a land line at home.

That's pretty wild!

Unfortunately (or fortunately), you'd probably feel right at home with the infotainment system in my 2015. Kind of crazy to me how the screen is so small and how bad the interface is compared to the newer ones with Apple Car play, etc.

I'd consider swapping to the aftermarket one if the process didn't look so painful to do. I just use a little phone mount and that's pretty much my car's infotainment haha

Same here. I like to say I'm using it as motivation to upgrade to a 2020+ someday.

I wish the Nav system would automatically lower the radio/media volume when Nav instructions are spoken. I don't play my music very loud, but even at volume levels around 35- 40, it's hard to hear the Nav directions.

The steering wheel has a button labeled "Mode". Short presses will change the media through
all the modes: AM/FM/Sat/CD etc. If you press and hold the Mode button it will mute a radio
station or pause any playback source. Pressing long again will restore the sound.

On the center console is the "Map" button. If you are looking at a screen other than the Map,
pressing the Map button displays the map. If you are already looking at the map, the voice
prompt will repeat.

When driving with the tunes on and you miss the Nav prompt all you do is 1) press the Mode
button long enough to mute the tunes, 2) press the map button to repeat the prompt, 3) Press
the mode button long enough to restore the tunes!

Haha nice. I didn’t think our cars did that but then again I don’t use the infotainment much. I think It would be a different story if it was touch screen.

Most of the time I actually drive with the display turned off in my car. I connect to Bluetooth and use my phone for navigation and music. I use a pretty sturdy vent clip and clip it on to the left vent by the door panel. On the lower left where the odometer and all the information is I have it set to the music menu so I can see what song is playing and use the steering wheel for volume + change to next song. When my daughter wants to play dj I have her connect to the aux cable and change the media and immediately turn the display back off.

Wait, What? You mean the Nav system doesn't mute the radio when it speaks at you? Haven't gotten lost enough to need Nav yet, but this surprises me since my wife's old 2008 ES Nav system muted the music to give instructions.

No it doesn't mute when providing Navigation prompts.
Different problem is that it doesn't mute the Navigation prompts when you are on the phone.
A bit annoying when the prompt natters on when you trying to carry on a conversation.

Lexus finally added an easy "Mute" button for the Nav voice but earlier Generations were tedious.
1) Enter Setup, 2) Enter Vehicle, 3) Enter Voice, 4) change from default volume "4" to "1" or "0"...

Marital Counseling needed when the prompt "turn left into the Gentlemen's Club parking lot"
speaks up while on the phone with your wife...

There is a setting for voice but I don't know what it does. Select to set the voice guidance during audio/visual and/or air conditioning system use on/off.*2
That's all the nav manual says. If it is off, does that mean it is off if you are playing the radio or have the A/C on? What a weird thing. Every nav voice guidance I've had on any other car (including Lexi) uses the same speakers for everything with priorities being Phone, Nav, radio. Which stupid engineer decided to do it differently?
