You probably blew our your Bus Bar, sometimes called a fusible link. It is in place to protect the various systems from exactly what you did. ^^^^No one does it on purpose I did it back in the 70s on my then wife's '73 Chevelle. Had to replace the fusible link which was a woven cable. Haven't done it since
