Question Does the piggyback ecu from SRT make a big difference?

Do you have to use the SRT intake or can you use a different intake system? Also how much does just the piggyback ecu cost? I have a 00 gs400. Thanks in advance for any help.

You CAN use it with other intakes (at least one member on here has done this), but I personally would be reluctant to. The SRT intake is 3.5" wide which allows for a larger volume of air than most other intakes. I'd be concerned the engine would run lean with the remapped settings and less airflow.

I do not think SRT sells their ECU without the intake, you can call them and check.

Actually, I would think that the car would run a little richer if there was less air available (with the SRT chip). If you have more airflow, then it would seem that the SRT piggyback would richen the fuel...because you can't make extra power without extra fuel. So on a non-SRT type intake, it may run a bit richer....that makes more sense to me.

You're probably right.... I actually thought about it (richer/leaner) when I typed that reply and had a little debate with myself . End result would be too much gas and not enough air to mix with it.

BOTTOM LINE - YOU HAVE TO BUY THE SRT INTAKE AND THE ECU TOGETHER FOR THE BEST RESULTS. More air and more fuel - I love mine!
