I emailed Mohammad at SRT and asked him if I could use the SRT ECU with my K&N FIPK cold air induction system, since it looked VERY similar to the SRT intake, and I understand that SRT even uses a K&N filter in their applications.
He told me that the SRT ECU was ONLY for SRT intakes, but I don't know whether he's tested it and/or whether he's just trying to sell me the whole (SRT ECU + intake) package.
So, does anybody know whether I can use the SRT ECU with my K&N intake? Also, does adding the ECU void the factory warranty?
I don't have any experience with the K&N, but I have noticed that the size of the tube of the SRT intake is a little larger than other intakes (allowing more airflow). Their ECU expects this larger volume of air, and if your K&N didn't deliver it, you'd have problems.
IMO, I wouldn't do it. I suspect they don't even sell just the ECU w/o the intake.
MO is not trying to con you into buying his intake, the reason they only sell the intake with the ECU or vise versa, is because there made for each other, you cant run one without the other or else your seriously going to mess up your engine, and as stated above the SRT intake is a bit larger in diameter than other intakes, and the ECU was programmed to compinsate for that, so unless your going to buy the whole package your better off looking at diffrent ECU's. You could look at the S-AFC by Apexi a few people have used it before and I think camron has it on his GS300, and mcnelson has it on his 1st gen. turbo GS300
Backing up what has already been said, we @ SRT DO NOT recommend using our Ecu with any other Intake product, but SRT. Going down this particular path may & will cause engine damage.
In order to clear any confusion, the SRT HFIS is a complete system in which neither the Intake tube or Ecu are available as separate units.
You may want to research some air/fuel remapping devices as spoken of earlier.
