NX450h+ unexpected auto braking
My wife had a problem today with the auto braking system. In the past we have had a few occasions, while backing up into a tight parking spot, where the car triggered the brakes automatically with a big red message on screen, thinking we were going to hit something even though this was not the case. Likely too much sensitivity.
The big problem is that once the brakes have been triggered we can’t do anything anymore without switching the car OFF and ON again! Pressing Parking and going back to drive or reverse does not work most of the time, the car tries to move a few inches and applies the brakes again.
Today my wife was coming into an underground parking. The gate opened and then she started to turn into the entrance when the car applied the brakes suddenly. She could not move and shifted to parking then forward again. The car moved a few feet and applied the brakes again. Now she was underneath the gate. Despite the security beam, the gate started to close while the car was still underneath not moving.
She quickly shifted to reverse to back out but the car reapplied the brakes and did not let her back out!
PS: The attached video is NOT the quality of the FitCamX! I had to heavily compress it to make it small for loading... The original video is perfectly clear and sharp.
She tried to shift to Parking then Reverse, still no luck, She did it a few times and eventually she managed to escape the gate by only a few inches. Of course there is a problem with the gate at that building, but she should have been able to shift to reverse and back out immediately... This is very dangerous. Imagine you are in the middle of an intersection when this arrives and traffic comes onto you...
I checked the FitCamX recording (see attached) and I believe that the car saw its own reflection in the large convex mirror near the gate and thought we could have a collision with it. So it basically did what it is supposed to do. However, everything was blocked after that, she could not move forward or in reverse! There should be a way to quickly override. She has driven into that parking lot many times and this is the first time this happened. (For some reason forum does not accept mp4 files, so I renamed .mp4 to .mpg).
I also noted that the FitCamX recording which was recorded immediately after that incident was totally unreadable. It is several minutes long but cannot be read! This is the ONLY recording on the SD card which is not playable. So I believe there is an electronic glitch that occurred when the auto brake system engaged and that is not reset until the engine is turned off and on again...
Anybody else having unnecessary auto braking? Anyone knows how to override it quickly after it happens? Turning engine OFF and ON does work but it takes a long time...
We have an appointment at Lexus this Tuesday to analyse the car records.

I have had this happen a few times backing into my garage. I think that when this happens, I press the brake pedal after the car auto brake and then just release the brake after I realized it is fine to continue and the car just proceeds to back up like normal. Have you tried pressing the brakes yourselves after the car has auto brake?
Did You perform the VSC recall Active on all new NX MY2022?
It should solve The highlighted issue.
Mine 450h+ F-Sport had similâr behaviour and went under update at Lexus dealer.
Now it is working without major issues, apart LL App malfunction and navigator maps update not working.

Wow - that's scary! I have a fear and distrust of those automatic barriers in parking lots so this would have been a nightmare for me.
With regards to a quick recovery action to get you out of a situation such as you have described, is it possible that temporarily disabling one or all of the NX safety systems would do the trick? These systems can be quickly and easily disabled via the "shortcut" icon on the Infotainment screen (the icon with the 2 rows of 3 dots). Far quicker than turning the car off then back on. The system that I would disable first would be the "Intuitive parking assist" but you may wish to disable them all.
Just a thought.

Here is my thread about the issue ... and the solutions offered: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...errerid=161523
Good Luck in resolving.
YMMV,

Thanks for all the input! I believe I did press the brake pedal before moving the shifter but I may not have pressed hard... Today it happened again when I was backing up in the parking and pressing the brakes hard seemed to work... Crossing fingers for next time!

Yes it can be disabled but that removes an important safety feature... I don't find the breaking a big problem as it has always happened at low speed. My main concern was being stuck and not being able to move again when that happens. However it seems like that pressing hard on the brake pedal resets the auto braking system and allowes to continue. It worked once so far for me and I need to try it a few times to be convinced this is the solution.

I hope a solution will be available soon. I always have fear going under parking lot gate from childhood halloween movie. I do not mind the auto brake but if I get stuck under the parking lot gate, I know I would be freaking out. Have you mention anythign to your dealership?

Yes, I was at the dealership yesterday. They could not find any fault when reading the data. They said the way to override this is to step hard on the brake pedal to indicate to the car you are in control again... I also wrote to Lexus Canada a week ago but did not get any reply.
