Default 450h+ Issues

I've had my car for 3 weeks, and have driven about 1000 miles. I took it in to the dealer today for the following issues:

- Driver's side view mirror vibration
- Wireless charger doesn't work (it will connect, but as soon as the car moves, the phone disconnects from the charger)
- Guest profile loads 95% of the time
- (4) unexpected braking incidents

The mechanic went on a test drive with me, and verified the wobbly mirror and sporadic wireless charger. He said he would look into the mirror issue, but as for the charger, he didn't see any way to fix it because the phone slides around when you drive...and therefore disconnects.

With the profile issue, he linked my key to my profile, and that seems to have solved the problem. When I get into the car now, I am welcomed by name in the center of the dashboard -- I had not seen this happen until he linked my key.

While the above issues are annoyances, the braking issue is my big concern. I have had 4 instances (once in Drive, 3 times in Reverse) where the car has completely stopped when I have been either pulling into or out of a parking space or driveway. It seems like the car thinks I am going to hit someone or something, even though I'm not really that close to any objects. Each time this happens, it's a huge scare because it makes me think that I've hit someone/something. I don't know if the sensors are just too sensitive, or if they are malfunctioning, or if it's something else. But this makes the car pretty much undriveable as I'm always worried that it's going to stop on its own. The mechanic suggest that we disable the "feature" that makes the car stop. I told him I don't want to disable a safety feature -- I want it to work properly.

I'm not sure what will happen at this point. I had called Lexus last week to alert them of the issue, and they said they would escalate the case and have someone work with the dealership on a fix. I'm supposed to hear back from Lexus by tomorrow evening.

I will post updates as they happen.

I believe that I read about the sudden stops in another thread...but can't find the post...It's a serious problem and you should take it to the dealer. You are not the first one that this has happened to.

Yes, thanks...I did see that other thread. The car is at the dealer right now, so we will see what they say. I've also reported it to Lexus, and am supposed to hear from them today. I will report back here in case the information is useful to anyone else.

I recently experienced my first sudden stop, so I now know what people have been referring to. In my case, there was a car that was approaching behind me, so I believe the system acted as it is designed to do. I would be real worried if the car was stopping with no cars/other items in the way.

Are you able to be more specific about "a car that was approaching behind me"? How close was the car? I guess I'm wondering what "as designed" means for this car. I've driven many different cars over the years, mostly BMWs and most recently a Volvo. The cars all have cameras and sensors, and they certainly beep at you if you are too close to another object. But I've never had a car that completely stops. Is this unique to Lexus? I can't imagine this is "as designed", as the objects that have been "near" me are really not very near.

I was slowly backing out of a parking spot, and there was a car approaching from the side. It was not yet behind me when a warning flashed on the center screen, and the car stopped itself.

When driving into and out of my garage, I routinely get a beeping warning, presumably telling me that I am close to items in the garage. However, the car never flashes a warning or stops itself in those circumstances.

When the car was approaching as you were backing out, did you feel that the other car was so close that it was an “emergency “ and required that you stop immediately in order to avoid imminent collision? I, too, was backing out of a parking spot in one of the instances where my car stopped. The other vehicle was not moving—it was simply waiting for me to pull out so that it could pull into the space I was vacating. I knew it was there, and I had plenty of room to continue backing out.

In fact, in all 4 instances where I’ve had this happen, there has been plenty of room between my car and any other cars or objects. Yes, there are other cars/objects nearby…but not so close that I’d be in danger of hitting them.

New cars ive driven like Hyundai and MB brake if they detect someone coming from the side. Also brakes if it sense I'm getting close to car in front and I'm not braking (or braking enough)

In Canada, The base NX just has RCTA (beep) while higher trims have RCTAB where B stands for braking which I had assumed made the car behave like newer cars I've driven as rentals

Thanks for the info. I am starting to think that maybe the sensors are not functioning correctly/are too sensitive.

Looks like if the issue is the break actuator, and the parts won’t be ready until sometime in late July, if a person were to experience this could they turn off the collision mitigation feature and just wait till July to bring it to the dealer because if you take it to the dealer now they’re gonna keep it, they won’t let you have it back is what I am seeing. Assume for legal reasons they can’t give it back until fixed.

In my case, they have not yet diagnosed the problem. They’ve had the car for a week. They had me fill out an Unexpected Braking form at the beginning of the week, and a release form yesterday which allows them to get the data from the car’s “black box”. It seems like it will be a slow process. I’m not sure I want to drive a car that has a malfunctioning safety feature, or a safety feature turned off. Neither seems safe. But before I get ahead of myself, I want a diagnosis.

I understand.

So far it seemed it was only backing up, which 99% of the time would not cause a major issue if it braked suddenly as in hitting another car. But if someone had it happen in D going over a cattle grate or whatever it was, then anything is possible.

the breaking issue is clearly the worst but when you take it in to the dealer show them the wireless charger issue. For me it’s not even when it’s moving. I can put my iPhone 12 on it when the car is completely stationary and after a random amount of time the charger will disconnect. IMHO they have used a poor design.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The design is terrible.
